Solar farms are cheaper and more efficient. The government should just be buying land and building new grid cables out to the middle of nowhere then auctioning off connections for battery and solar projects that are ready to go.
I agree, and very few people can afford to buy-in if they can even afford a home at all. Large scale solar should be the goal. However if you live somewhere that doesnt have the political will or funds to do this, it's still better to go solar at home than not.
