She's right, machines pick cotton. The cotton gin replaced slave labor because of how efficient it was. Not all agriculture has been revolutionized like this.

Of all the silly shit to have your panties in a twist about, y'all. You got literal nazis sending people to concentration camps talking about how they're going to force "mentally ill" people to work farms, and you want to imagine up some bullshit to be mad at one of the few democrats that's been effective lol touch grass

If machines pick cotton... why do we need migrants? Her conclusion does not follow the antecedent.

Democrats who say this shit make me sick.

It doesn't occur to them that, maybe, we shouldn't have second class jobs for second class citizens and that it's horrible we use desperate migrants to do the jobs we don't want to do. It doesn't have to be this way.

Pay people enough and they'll pick cotton. Can't do that, though, so we'll just traffic desperate refugees over the border (refugees created by US foreign policy!) to do it instead.

You’re describing the Democratic Party’s platform. Join a real leftist party, like the PSL, and you won’t keep finding yourself shocked to hear members of a rightwing party say more rightwing things.

I'm not shocked. Just disgusted.

People don't pick cotton anymore in the first place. Machines do it now and have been for over 50 years.

Kind of shows how out of touch she is. You'd think she'd bother to know even one thing about the point she's trying to make.

I mean, her point was that black people aren't going to go back to being slaves, so using cotton does make sense, but I would have been more direct instead of using an euphemism.

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Her point was it’s black people’s turn to be masters. There should be no masters, and no slaves, period.

Superb projection there bud.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

Sure, and it also implies that immigrants are the replacement slaves.

Which brings us back to my point, which is that immigrants shouldn't be second class workers that we use as the new slaves.

When education isn't liberating the dream of the oppressed is to become the oppressor

Holy shit between this and the Governor hot wheels comment recently she's just showing that she might be just as much a liability as she will be a newfound asset lately. The passion is great, but it feels like there's not as much of a filter on what she's putting out there in some heated moments. Not like I'm perfect, I'd probably pull some similar petty shit after enough speeches but that's why I'm not in government.

[–] chillBurner@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago

Hot Wheels was cool insult, yeah

[–] Lawdoggo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Governor hot wheels was kind of funny because the resulting bitching and moaning from “the party that wants to say retard again” made for great optics. This is just a tasteless punch-down.

Rep. Crockett last month also faced backlash for referring to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, as “Governor Hot Wheels.”

Not gonna lie I snorted loudly when I read that.

Backlash for what though? Do they not realize how awesome Hot Wheels are? You think if I had a prosthetic limb and someone called me "Robocop" or "Inspector Gadget" I'm going to get upset?

Breaking news the Capitalist party (D) still using racism to protect capitalism. Next up, the Capitalist party (R) says a bunch of racist shit.
