Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

The inside of RFK Jrs head be like…..

Don't insult Brain like that! He is legitimately smart and does what he can given his circumstances (he is a literal lab rat in a lab that he has to escape from every night... and his only companion is barely functional).

I still... maybe it's my years working construction, but when I look at RFK Jr. - his mannerisms and gestures and speech patterns and connection (or lack thereof) to reality - I see a tweaker, clear as a bell.

He has done (and sold) a lot of drugs. So, no surprise there.

The worm ate deeply _ although I doubt there was much to eat.

What there was was junk food.

"Have you ever seen anyone...71 years old, with full-blown autism?" Kennedy asked. "Head-banging, nonverbal, non-toilet trained, spinning, toe-walking...these other stereotypical features?"

"Where are these people walking around the mall? You can't find them," he said. "They're not in homes, there are no homes for them, there are no institutions... anybody can look around and see that this is a canard."

I keep seeing the Forest Gump quote overlayed over him whenever I see one of his posts, "I am not a bright man."

[–] straightjorkin@lemmy.world 34 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Also, there very much are older people like this. My mother worked with severe people my entire life. The elder autistic exist.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 21 points 4 days ago (2 children)

When I was very, very little, I remember my mom saying that they're shutting down all of the institutions and she was worried about where they would all go. I didn't really get what she meant at the time, now I get it.

Unfortunately lots of old folks think this way, actually today in the morning this same topic was brought up at breakfast by my mom, she was not being disrespectful necessarily but still is incredible how she cannot see that herself might be autistic and just never got a diagnosis

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 12 points 3 days ago

So, how old is the ol' muskrat?

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

oh so now he's unfit?

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Coming from Silicon Valley, I can assure RFK, my friends with autism are absolutely crushing it out here.

I look at their homes and families and think “fuck, carve me off a slice of that spectrum.”

[–] straightjorkin@lemmy.world 18 points 4 days ago (1 children)

All someone on the spectrum needs to be successful is to get a special interest in a lucrative field.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 16 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Respectfully, this is a vast oversimplification. There are many successful people on the spectrum in tech, but that doesn't always translate to success or money. Communication is a huge part of a development job and communication with others is usually fraught for autistic people.

That being said, a bunch of folks on the milder end of the spectrum have certainly had great success in the field, myself among them.
