Honestly, it makes sense to me that the generations that grew up with the internet and basically limitless access to porn would be less interested in gratuitous sex in the rest of their media. They don't know what it's like to rewind three seconds of a tape over and over because of a single out of focus boob, or making do with the lingerie section of the sears catalog. They don't have that any port in a storm mindset.

And when they don't, the fandoms are happy to forcefully invent a romantic relationship between basically any two characters.

The moment Trump sets foot in the white house again, the economy becomes his problem. If he actually puts those tariffs in place, he will be causing immediate price hikes that will be felt by everyone. That alone would likely cause a massive backlash in the midterm elections.

Harris tried to run on protecting abortion rights, and saving democracy from Trump and Project 2025. Under other circumstances, that probably would have worked.

Unfortunately, she was the nominee for the incumbent party at a time when the vast majority of voters were unhappy with the economy. That's a hard position to be in, and requires a compelling answer. She had a few token items for the agenda, but nothing that would address the larger issue of people feeling squeezed by inflation. Saying things are better now or going to be better soon doesn't appease the voters who don't feel better.

The horrible truth is, a large portion of the electorate would vote for the literal devil if he was running against an incumbent during a bad economy.

Elon's going to get a shot at balancing the government's budget. And I'm sure his approach will be similar to the way he handled Tesla's budget. You know, gotta make deep cuts and lay off as many people as possible, while granting himself a bonus large enough to cover those jobs for decades.

Trump and the Republicans are about to make things worse for the vast majority of Americans. How much they actually accomplish will probably be at least somewhat limited by infighting and incompetence, But if they fulfill even a fraction of what the campaign promised (to say nothing of the project 2025 roadmap) there will be a lot more things for the people to be upset about.

For some, it's just not paying attention and not being happy with the way things are going.

The judge’s ruling was on Krasner’s emergency motion to shut down the sweepstakes right away. There is still an underlying case on the merits of whether Musk’s giveaway is illegal under state gaming law.

Just to be clear, this wasn't the judge ruling that it was legal, it was the judge deciding not to issue an emergency order immediately halting the lottery. I'm honestly not surprised given the fact that there is only a day left and the damage is already done.

“Our intent all along is to only provide compensation to registered voters and US citizens, and avoid any chance that we are somehow providing funds to foreign nationals or someone with ill-intent,” Young said.

Young, the super PAC’s treasurer, said the group received plenty of sign-ups from people who weren’t registered to vote – and those people “received a follow-up opportunity and were encouraged to check their registration status,” Young testified.

If there was any doubt that they were using this to get people to register to vote, this added detail should make it pretty clear. They were telling people who weren't registered to register in order to get paid / enter a lottery.

Just trying to hedge her bets. Doesn't want to be fully against Trump if he wins, but wants to be able to say she warned about this if he loses and the party collapses into infighting. Just a rat getting in position to flee a sinking ship.

Presenting a giveaway as random and then not following through with a random selection is very illegal. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that Musk's lawyer just straight up admitted to a felony in court, given that there's no way a competent lawyer would have ever signed off on this and put himself in a situation where he'd have to defend it in court. Not unless Musk is willing to pay him so much that he'll never need to practice law again.

Unfortunate that they weren't able to do anything to stop the election interference. But there's enough blatant criminal activity here that there should be no reason why they can't press charges (state and federal) and throw his ass in prison. They just need to be willing to go after him, and also not have Trump in the white house protecting him.

Over 200 American outlets under USA Today parent company Gannett will not back candidates “in presidential or national races,” according to USA Today.

“None of the USA TODAY Network publications are endorsing in presidential or national races,” a spokesperson for USA Today, Lark-Marie Antón, said in an email to The Hill on Monday.

My SO and I are always looking for good movies, shows, etc. to fill the month of October. We like things that are atmospheric, cerebral, or just fun. But a lot of the standard recommendations are your typical slasher movies and the like, disgusting body horror, kids movies that we have no interest in, and things that are just plain miserable.

Here's some things we've liked to one degree or another from previous years.

Action Horror / Horror That's Actually Enjoyable

  • Aliens
  • Bram Stoker's Dracula
  • Fright Night
  • Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters
  • The Mummy (1999)
  • Silence of the Lambs
  • Sleepy Hollow (Great? No. Fun? Yes.)
  • Termors 1 & 2
  • Various Stephen King Mini series (IT, The Stand, Rose Red)

Funny and Spooky

  • Army of Darkness
  • BeetleJuice
  • Bubba Ho-Tep
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer (movie)
  • The Burbs (didn't love it, but a good fit)
  • Death Becomes Her
  • The Frighteners
  • Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
  • Ghostbusters 1 & 2
  • Gremlins 1 & 2
  • High Anxiety
  • Little Shop of Horrors (not really into musicals, but still a good fit)
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • What We Do in the Shadows (movie)
  • Various MST3K horror movie episodes
  • Young Frankenstein

Anthology Shows (inherently hit or miss)

  • The Twilight Zone (60s)
  • The Outer Limits (90s)
  • Tales From the Crypt

Old Timey Classics

  • Dracula
  • Frankenstein (actually underwhelming, but it was a good fit)
  • The Haunting (1963)
  • The Haunting of Hill House (with Rifftrax, but still counts)
  • The Last Man on Earth
  • Psycho
  • The Invisible Man

Barely Qualifies as spooky but still good:

  • Dark Man
  • The Dead Zone (movie)
  • Men in Black
  • Pacific Rim
  • The Shadow
  • They Live

A new poll shows former President Trump leading Vice President Harris by only 2 points in Florida ahead of what could be a tighter-than-expected race in the red state in November.

Trump leads Harris with 49 to her 47 percent support in the Sunshine State, according to a Morning Consult poll released Monday. The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus two points.

And don't get me started on modern conveniences.

It seems like all the other markdown stuff works, but we're missing ^superscript^ and ~subscript~ in connect. As a frequent user of footnotes,^1^ I would greatly appreciate support for these tags.

^1^ Great for citations, explanations, or really stupid tangents

Amazing how one little letter can make such a big difference.
