Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.

That's the thing about cutting trees. You cut a tree that is in your way for your own desire to see it gone. You plant a tree for future generations to enjoy. There's no in between. We just don't live long enough to see a tree replaced to the same glory as the one we cut.
And the tree in question here was over 150 years old, planted by a man that died back in 1890.

A man in our town took it upon himself to clean up a property next door to him. It was owned by old fart who yelled at a lot of clouds, probably. He sued and got a six figure settlement for five trees that were cut down.

Bird law is simple and fair in comparison to tree law

If tree law in the UK is anything like tree law in the US, they could be looking at treble or quadruple damages for that. And if they're criminally convicted, the civil suit will be a slam dunk.
These dumbasses may not be able to own anything nice for the rest of their lives.

They were grown ass men. Why the hell would they kill a living being like that? Trees talk to each other and they live well beyond our human years. The local area belongs more to the tree than any individual man—they’ll be here for centuries beyond us if they are lucky.
People don’t respect trees as much as they do animals and I do think that’s wrong. We should be very mindful of how we treat trees. I think we arrogantly underestimate plant life.
I’m sure some dwarves would call me a dirty elf for my feelings on this but chopping down trees like this for no reason is painful. I hope they get everything they deserve.

Oh I see I see it’s the stump has sprouts and they will maybe grow? That’s fantastic news! I wish the tree well. It’s probably wondering what the f happened. Hadrian’s wall is a cool place to set down roots. I hope the tree is stubborn as hell and can start a new life.
