Does it happen in a browser client? Have you verified that it doesn't happen if you download a file and play it locally?

Didn't realize web was an option. Been using iOS client based on this list: https://jellyfin.org/downloads/clients/
I can access the admin interface via web from a remote Mac. Is that the port I should be hitting or should I open other docker ports? It's all on local home network.
You shouldn't need to open any additional ports. Do you have separate accounts for admin and viewing purposes?
Ooh. Just hit it at the reserved server IP on port 8096. Logged in with the user account and started a movie.
Voice is synced and subtitles are only a second off. Strange how much off the native iOS player was.
Thanks for pointing me the right way.
Force transcoding and burn in subtitles
EDIT: explain the downvote? This is the correct solution lol it's not a problem with your client
Toggled burning on and found could also adjust subtitle size and position. It says it might affect performance, but that machine doesn't have too many things running on it.
I also remembered it would get worse as you scrubbed or paused, then played. Hopefully, the burning will help avoid that. Thanks!
The performance hit during play and scrubbing is due to need to transcode the video as it burns the subtitles in. If you have hardware acceleration for transcoding configured properly, it shouldn't be a big impact on modern hardware
I believe this typically happens if transcoding is needed and it can be "fixed" by enabling "Always burn in subtitle when transcoding" in the subtitles options.
Thanks, didn't know about the setting. Also found I could change font size and position of subtitles. One more thing solved.
