What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Any country that says that they don't have any "homeless or beggars" is either lying, or killing people on the street.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 25 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Or living in a labour camp.

[–] ilega_dh@feddit.nl 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Ah that’s what they mean with “right to work”!

[–] TheFriar@lemm.ee 7 points 4 days ago

Hey they have “right to work” in Florida! They must be the most “Democratic” place in the world!

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

The part they don't like talking about is the police approach homeless people in China and give them the option to either do whatever job tbey are given or go to prison and dissapear.

You can criticize the US without making other authoritarian states look good. Both can be bad

[–] Merva@sh.itjust.works 81 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 32 points 5 days ago

Their bodies have adapted so well to boot licking, they can actually get sick and die from shoe polish withdrawal. That's the only rational explanation I can come up with.

[–] Saledovil@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Also US citizens are allowed to criticize the US.

[–] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 4 days ago

Pretty sure North Korean citizens are also allowed to criticize the US so no fundamental difference here (/s if not obvious)

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 25 points 5 days ago (11 children)

Reality is a team sport, to some people. They have no objective means of evaluating claims. In their worldview, that is not what claims are for.

Tankies should go to their best korea and shut up about how stalin, mao, polpot and the likes were really mis understood and really had some great ideas we should reimplement.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 26 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Sorry you had to go through so much hate.

[–] deaf_fish@lemm.ee 28 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

It does feel bad, but I keep thinking about the people who don't know any better falling into that way of thinking. If there is at least one person in there questioning their circle jerk. I feel like it can save people a lot of trouble.

Thanks for creating this post! I think it also helps.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's most likely why your comments were removed and your account banned, huh? Can't have dissent.

[–] deaf_fish@lemm.ee 6 points 3 days ago

Yup, they are not interested in having real discussions. They are just larping.

I know some of them are victims and are just there because they fell for it. You can tell because they are the ones who engage you with curiosity instead of contempt.

[–] net00@lemm.ee 19 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I'm tired of seeing these .ml arseholes, how can I block the whole instance??

[–] throwawayacc0430@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

infosec.pub

defederates

lemmy.ml
lemmygrad.ml
hexbear.net

Or just go to settings, but this method won't block you from seeing a .ml user commenting on, say .world, for example.

[–] death@infosec.pub 3 points 3 days ago

That's why I'm on infosec.pub. There should be a list somewhere of instances which defederate from those annoying instances so people can more easily pick a good home server.

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 5 points 3 days ago

The very best thing I have ever heard about infosec.pub.

Why can't we just agree that both the US and DPRK are undemocratic?

🤦

The US is currently hybrid regime, DPRK is, and has been, a full totalitarian regime for the past few decades.

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 58 points 5 days ago (11 children)

If the "D"RPK is so great, why can't people leave?

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 20 points 4 days ago

You know your country is a grade A shit hole where leaving brands you a traitor. Assuming you're successful that is, and don't get killed for trying.

also look at these weird ass rules. This is for the "korea" community

Insecure much?

[–] TheFriendlyDickhead@lemm.ee 53 points 5 days ago (9 children)

I love how this kinds of communities describe themselfes as welcome to discussion and the write all the "facts" as a rule and everybody who says anything els gets banned.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

And remember anyone they disagree with gets "rule 1" banned. Its so blatantly used as well, you can check the mod logs and see the things getting people banned for.

Hell look at the last "rule 1" ban on .ml someone was banned for posting:

"Where can I find a pie chart of market shares for the instances? I would expect that none of them is more than 51% alone. Only then we can call this “decentralization”, right?"

How very uncivil of them......

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 34 points 5 days ago (12 children)

Yeah, I don't really understand why tankies pretend to be liberals so much. So many of their communities are all like 'discussion welcome!'

But of course it isn't actually welcome. I've noticed that it's special to tankies, and that other extremists openly embrace their ignorance.

I want every ml in the world to move to north korea or china or any country they stan so much and live there for the rest of their life so that they will feel how "great" and "democratic" these "utopias" are.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 42 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (3 children)

They absolutely can move to their favourite places. Iran, China, Russia -- But they never do. They're very lazy. Or perhaps deep down they know that their entire being is a trend that they latched onto to look better.

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 29 points 5 days ago (7 children)

If you ever bring it up they’ll say something along the lines of “well why don’t you pay for my move then”.

When they refer to South Korea as Occupied Korea, I almost can’t breathe from laughing.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 33 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Maximal working hour: 8 per day.

And how many days per week?

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 25 points 5 days ago (1 children)

10 for good citizens

20 in forced labor camps

Yeah sure, NK is a total utopia. Especially like the part where it says "Workers are the owner of the means of production" as if they didn't have one dictator that was in charge without anyone really having a choice.

Women and Men receive the same payment for the same work

That payment? $24 per year.

That's not a joke. That is the real number at the black market exchange rate.

99,9% Alphabetization

list not in alphabetical order, straight to a ~~work camp~~ state funded retreat

[–] PhilipTheBucket@ponder.cat 30 points 5 days ago (4 children)

For anyone who like me was just confused and ignored it: They meant "literacy" but translated it badly.
