TL;DR: The CyberTruck is 17 times more likely to have a fire fatality than a Ford Pinto.

You can always get out of a Pinto though.

Ford pinto got a safety recall

the cyberstuck won't get a recall

And our government will start arresting people who trash talk it, guarantee

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 50 minutes ago

Meh, this is old news from at least over a month ago, were all still here

Except for those that got arrested beor having a slightly wrong skin color

[–] Sturgist@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 hours ago

Except that they already did a recall.

I mean, they should be just totally removed from the road. Apparently loads of insurance companies won't insure them, so that's a step in the right direction.

This headline reminded me that Mitch "Turtle" McConnell's sister-in-law drowned in a Tesla in Feburary.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee -1 points 11 hours ago

The circumstances around her death were suspicious since the McConnel family is tied to ccp

Wups, wrong comment

Ah yes, this old article from February, that included the Las Vegas Fireworks explosion in their calculation of exploding CyberTrucks!

Great journalism.

That incident is so still super weird to me. The dude was supposedly an ordnance expert but his plan revolved around what I can only describe as cartoon logic- "fireworks and electric car batteries exolode, so I'll mix the two together to make a super explosion !" My initial thought was he wanted the spectacle more than actually harming people but his writings seemed to contradict that. Maybe he just went off the deep end and was living in a delusion but anyone who knows anything about how explosions work could have told you that his plan had essentially zero chance of working as intended. If he were just a normal guy that would be one thing but again he was supposedly an active duty ordnance expert. I don't think there's any kind of conspiracy or anything I just don't understand what happened.

he literally asked Chatgpt what to do and followed its instructions

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

But again, someone who is supposedly an ordnance expert would know that CharGPT was using cartoon logic.

It's sad how upvoted these ratass forum sliders are

Any time, fam :)

I mean, it's not like it got less relevant in the last 60 days. Didn't one just blow up out in Cali and the doors all failed? Feels more relevant than ever.

Congratulations. What a marvelous achievement.

Thanks! Yeah I think I might check it out again. Wasn't in the mood when it was on.

Can very much recommend. It’s a hidden gem. Sadly there’s only two rather short seasons

[–] KayLeadfoot@fedia.io 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I actually don't know! Just saw the gif and liked it :)

It's perfect!

Maybe we should have some sort of analog handle that doesn't require power?

[–] towerful@programming.dev 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait, you mean I have to manually activate a series of levers, linkages and mechanism?
Outrageous!

I do concede this vital functionality should be in a quick-access menu for ease of access, on the "additional" page of the "traditional controls" submenu in the "car functions" dashboard.

Perhaps we should first make the user enable “legacy” mode in the settings which can only be done by tapping the firmware version number 10 times. But they can press too quickly, we need to make sure it was intentional.

We also must also reset this when the car is turned off in order to ensure our customers aren’t confused.

Also it voids the warranty…

I'm curious how explosive it is compared to the Ford Exploder personally, that's a more direct comparison of vehicle type. And those were rolling over and exploding all over the place much more recently than the Pinto back in the 70s.

LOL, weren't around for all that? It was quite a thing. Here's a (boring) timeline:
