So $10,800 total. I know people say "oh you spend 1/3 of your life asleep, invest in your mattress" but uh, no mattress is worth that. Every car I've owned in my life except one cost less than that (even accounting for inflation).
Yeah, I've spent my entire adult life sleeping on sub-400 dollar memory foam mattresses from Ikea et al. and I've never noticed any weird back or neck issues that couldn't be solved by making sure my pillow was at the proper thickness/position.
What am I missing out on? I think people just like to blow money, or maybe they could use some exercise to correct non-sleep related musculoskeletal issues. I have been considering upgrading tho. I dunno man

Yeah, people got different backs and different injuries. I've done a ton of rehab (just strength training basically) so mine's not nearly as sensitive as it used to be. But the wrong mattress can still leave me in rough shape. Like, hard to get through the day, and I say that as kind of a glutton for punishment TBH.
I'm active, just slightly overweight (beer and pizza, shit goes hard), but I have a couple muscle spasms from old injuries that'll probably never truly be gone entirely.
I'm also a pretty frugal individual, but a decent (for my needs) mattress is non negotiable for me. Legit can't have a normal life with one that works poorly. Just gets worse and worse night after night, no matter what I do, till I can't walk or stand really. Takes like a week or two at max, but I can speed run it too sometimes lol.
We just have a basic Leesa (no idea if they're still around), pretty straightforward latex foam dealie. Think it was around $1k, maybe 7 years ago. Zero issues, sleep like a dream on it, holding up great too. I don't know that it's a one size fits all situation, but it does seem to work great for my spine in particular.
I have a spinal issue I was born with that caused a lot of issues with the rest of my body, along with several injuries (altercations with people, car accidents). I do physical therapy and exercise but I still need a nice bed to help support my body so I am not in agony the next day.
My mattress cost about $1500. You can find mattresses more expensive than that, but the difference in price wasn't worth it to me. I've slept on cheaper mattresses. The best of them were still pretty good, but my current mattress lets me wake up without nearly as much pain.
Tbh, this is totally reasonable. I'm confident that a 1500 dollar mattress would be better than my 400 dollar mattress. And its not even a crazy price for a nice piece of "furniture". But there are mattresses that cost 5, 8, even 10k+ out there. Its wild

I’ve actually seen quite a few $10K non-AI mattresses. Quite a few high end king sized ones were in the $7-10K range. It’s on the extreme high end, and probably isn’t nearly as good as those others.
That's insane to me. A couple months ago, I bought a brand new mattress... for $92.
This is worth more than my car and my motorcycle combined.
My Costco mattress is $600, and I've never slept on a more comfortable mattress before or since.
my boxspring bed came with mattresses and is brilliant - it cost 3k altogether. 10k for only a mattress is insanity
