What solarpunk communities, other than slrpnk.net of course, are you part of, or engage with frequently? It is easy to find some pointers (like https://wiki.slrpnk.net/links), but personal experience and maybe even recommendations are worth way more. So I would love to hear some opinions. Bonus points for non-lemmy or non-mastodon ones, as there seems to be less info on those. But share your favorites nevertheless, if you want to, of course.

Lacking the scifi vibes of solarpunk, but I massively recommend joining your local greenpeace (or friends of the earth, extinction rebellion etc, depending on location) group!

I've only attended a few events so far, so not an expert or anything, but meeting with an IRL community based on protecting the environment is really great for making a difference, but also mental health in avoiding doomerism.

Most big groups have monthly "welcome sessions" that are a great way to feel things out if you're not sure.

Getting into local action is rock solid advice, good point. Not what I’m looking for right now, but good feedback.

I'm currently joining my local gardening club.

It's a nice community of mainly elderly women, who practice organic gardening, have orchards and more, even a small community cabin!

I will teach them about hydroponics and mushroom cultivation soon, and I'm exited what they can teach me!

This is wholesome and great 🙂 I’ll get the chance do to a lot more gardening somewhat soon and I’m looking forward to learning the basics. Probably great topic to get in touch with neighbors and build a small network, too.

Generally I find following the #solarpunk hashtag on the (microblogging) Fediverse already to yield some good results to find interesting stuff. #permacomuting is also an interesting hashtag usually.

Personally, I have mixed experiences with the hashtag. But gonna have another look. Also a hashtag might not really be a community, in terms of what I’m looking for. But if people regularly run into each other over the hashtagged posts, then maybe it is.
