As many have been saying in the HackerNews thread ... a notable aspect of Vim and Bram was that it was basically a charity FOSS, taking revenue from ads and committing it back to charities, and asking for donations (see the official Vim website).

Anyone looking to commemorate Bram's passing might want to think about donating.

Vim was a huge game changer for the editor world and the site itself was always recognizable for those African charities. We lost one of the old school greats on that day and it's a real shame. 🫡

@fox RIP Bram! My heart goes to the family, this is hard time now.

2 days ago I just switched finally from Vim to NeoVim, the day he died (didn't know this at that time BTW).

RIP Bram.

I've been using Vim for 3 decades under multiple OSes and I think this software has had the most impact on my daily workflow.
