Created by an eccentric billionaire, officially in protest to politicisation of the Olympics, some think actually because he was angry at his own media companies not being given the rights to cover the Olympics, the Goodwill Games existed from 1979 to 2001. After the 2001 Brisbane Games, the event was cancelled due to waning interest.

With the increasing difficulty of finding willing host cities, it would be quite amusing if the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games were the last. We'd be like a curse city.

1982 Commonwealth games were fantastic. I loved Matilda and looked out for her for years after every time we drove past on the highway. 1982 more than offsets 2001.

I had to Google Goodwill Games. I have no memory of them at all.

Yeah same. I think I had vaguely heard about it before, but I have no memory of them being here despite living in Brisbane at the time.

I assume they're what the Goodwill Bridge is named after.
