Brisbane West BUG

Do you support suggestions to install a temporary shared path on one of the 6 traffic lanes of the Story Bridge while Brisbane City Council pulls its finger out to address the problems it has known about for 5 years or more and failed to act?

We do. And next Friday May 30th there is a March across the Story Bridge to show it. And do you know what? Council is trying to take the organisers to court, because "people's right to freedom of movement would be excessively interfered with."

So while it's perfectly fine to close a bridge that thousands of people rely on for walking or riding across for months with no definitive timeframe for reopening, but occupying a lane for a march across the bridge "interferes with freedom of movement".

We think the ongoing interference with people's right to freedom of movement by not being able to walk or ride across the bridge is far more serious.

While that court action plays out, share this event with everyone you know.

This city is not the sole domain of cars. But, unbelievably, we need to fight for the right to walk.

They all look a bit similar, but still, there's some pleasant pics there.

I adore these creatures but having observed them outside my home for over two years I have come to the realisation that they're quite silly.

The main pedestrian and cycling paths on either side of the Story Bridge have been closed for over two months now, because of BCC's failure to maintain them properly. The footpaths are expected to be closed for the remainder of the year as they undergo repairs.

This petition, through BCC's official ePetitions system, calls for them to close one of the six general traffic lanes, temporarily, to enable it to be used for active travel.

Note that after signing the petition, you will receive an email. You must click the link in the email to confirm your signature, or it will not be counted.

Created by an eccentric billionaire, officially in protest to politicisation of the Olympics, some think actually because he was angry at his own media companies not being given the rights to cover the Olympics, the Goodwill Games existed from 1979 to 2001. After the 2001 Brisbane Games, the event was cancelled due to waning interest.

With the increasing difficulty of finding willing host cities, it would be quite amusing if the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games were the last. We'd be like a curse city.
