Who would have thought the LAPD would commit such blatant police brutality? Oh wait, everyone.

If you ever wonder why police budgets are so over-inflated, it's because an absurd number of their unqualified thugs get sued for shot like this, and they have to pay out huge amounts of compensation. You'd think they'd learn, but they won't as long as they keep getting basically unlimited budgets and no real consequences.

I made an argument with one of my co-workers that I think that police unions should have to pay all legal bills and payouts for cops getting sued for violating rights. He responded "That's a quick way to get rid of all police unions," I had to stop and think if that would be a problem or not.

My point was the police unions are the only ones that can hold their members accountable. If they forced their members to act better instead of being thugs then things might change. If Police unions don't hold themselves accountable then no one will.

Under Capitalism, the police can only ever be the millitant arm of the bourgeoisie directed against the proletariat. ACAB has value as a phrase because the police only serve Capital. As long as Capital is dominant over humanity, rather than the inverse, police will be used primarily against the working class.

No, the ~~legal~~ lawsuit payouts don't come from the cops, their insurance, or their pensions. The taxpayers foot the bill for the lawsuits by losing money from their city's funds.

NYPD pays $600,000/ year as pension.

They have to be destroyed by any means necessary.

The police representative blandly spouting copaganda and saying how much the LAPD cares about safeguarding lives, while a protestor is currently getting hit with batons and run over by horses, is the most US thing I've ever seen.

Not surprising at all, there's been so many cop brutality incidents over the years. Off the top of my head, a cop broke the arm of an elderly woman with dementia and the cops laughed and joked about it. There was another case where the cops make a man crawl on floor before executing him. People don't just become monsters overnight. They've been trained over the years to behave this way.

[–] RaccoonBall@lemm.ee 45 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Bodycams are making a lot more of these available now too. Saw a brutal one where cops paralyze a handcuffed guy by breaking his neck, then they sit prop him up in a sitting position and complain that hes uncooperative because won't move.

That was a year ago, the dude is dead and the cops got off scott free.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 days ago

It makes it more available to view, but it hardly does anything to prevent it from being done because the cops face no consequences regardless usually.

The job also attracts monsters and that’s who they want to hire

Those Nazis are attempting murder.

[–] zazazaza@lemmy.ml 54 points 5 days ago (2 children)

looking at how even the horses are disobeying being forced to harm people - we can conclude that calling cops animals is not appropriate - ghouls and psychopaths seems more adequate but don't let me stop you from listing all other fitting names you can think of:

Defund the entire department until they bring forward the cops who did this

[–] pneumatron@sh.itjust.works 20 points 4 days ago

LAPD is a fucking gang

[–] HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Why the fuck do the police still use horses?

Are there still bandits in the wild west robbing steam trains?

Notice the first horse refused on the left.

The police badge is the most common gang sign that I regularly see.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago (2 children)

How can we as a society tolerate this?

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 11 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Because the bulk of society in the US, the working class, has no say in the matter.

Watched this live all day at work. So much of this shit went on. The whole thing with CHP trapped under the overpasses was set up to be a massacre, but the protestors didn't kill them.

No commander in his right mind would trap their troops on low ground like that unless it was a sacrifice.

[–] taco@piefed.social 14 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Or they know the violent threat they're using as justification is total fiction.

Arent you guys supposed to have weapons in case a tyranical government or something like that?

[–] dessalines@lemmy.ml 33 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The arming was (and remains) mainly about keeping the US settler garrison empowered to carry out indigenous eviction, and keeping non-white populations under control. Not protecting from a tyrannical government.

You can see that when those groups did try to arm themselves, such as the Black panthers or the American Indian Movement, laws were passed and repression carried out to disarm them.

Highly recommend reading Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz - Loaded, the disarming history of the second amendment for more on this. You can find the audiobook on torrents.

[–] FreudianCafe@lemmy.ml 12 points 5 days ago

Thanks for the reading recomendation, will look into it. Yeah, times of crisis are really fast destroyers of lies, such as that the ruling classes would allow the ruled to arm against them. If the propaganda meltdown was in turbo mode after israel started the genocide, a civil conflict inside the us will give it a spaceship engine

Fuck USA! USA!USA!

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago

As someone raised in LA I think this is the first time I've actually seen police on horses. Where in the protests did that particular one happen?

All cops are cowards.
