Thankfully ol' girl's op went mainly well yesterday. Hopefully moving out of ICU back into the ward today or tm. Knew it was somewhat major surgery but not really ICU.

Probs going into care/rehab afterards for a bit which will piss her off. With any luck might be able to bring her in some proper soup in a week or 2.

So bit of a waiting game to see what recovery is like and go from there.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 3 weeks ago

so many hugs , I hope she gets better very soon

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago

Glad to hear it went well, I imagine the recovery will be tough on all of you!

I'm glad to hear it went well mate ❀️

I have an afternoon appointment so I bravely decided to try and work on my slides from home.

This is how that's going...

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh dear, I can see productivity levels dropping to an all time low.

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago

It's been two hours and I've only just started doing anything relevant. Meanwhile she is constantly headbonking my hands when I try to type. And curling herself up into a different but equally comfy position every 10 minutes. I walked into this...

trying to eat a tuna sammich. The kittens are massing. They have taken the kitchen and the hallway. I have barred my office, but cannot hold them for long. The paws scritch at the wood....mews. mews in the hall. I cannot get out. I gobble mouthful after mouthful until my chest chokes with bread. A bell rings behind me....I cannot get out....They are coming.

My resignation has been officially announced, so now it’s real. My manager has checked if I’m still comfortable with the decision and it’s a resounding hell yes.

Now I just need to somehow stay awake after a lunch wrap that turned out way too greasy and heavy.

Today I visited the centrelink office for the first time in 18 years. I walked in and froze. It's changed so much and it's quiet which was a contrast to the last time when some cunt was having a melt down, throwing chairs and punches and the cops were called.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I think they prefer us to do everything on line now

medicare is the same, they do not like walk ins

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah. I did everything online but I had to go in to show ID.

How much bacon it took much bacon if adding to a bolognaise sauce that will contain chicken?

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

I reckon a small amount of bacon just to add a bit of depth to the flavour. I wouldn't fry it too much beforehand, just a little. A chicken based Bol can be a bit meh (or some I've had were), so adding just a little bacon or something cured and strong tasting is a good choice. Maybe I'm just biased because I love the richness of beef.

And old boss messaged me with a link to a a position he's advertising. Same salary as I am on 2 year contract vs 3 years that I'm on right now.

I'm not a huge fan of the new workplace, but cannot imagine working for him again. Top bloke, great for a chat and a beer, but absolutely shocking manager.

My message will be as follows 'Thanks for thinking of me with this role, however I'm enjoying this new job and want to see how it pans out. Maybe in another year or so'.

Ha. Cartoon characters are very satisfying to draw and colour.

Just got home from work. EOFY sucks the big one. Kill me now. (after I've had this glass of wine that magically leapt out of the fridge and into my hand) Really should eat something. Later.

A fresh, warm cinnamon scroll for late breakfast. With extra frosting. No regrets.

The sugar & caffeine high might get me into my work day, we'll see.

I stopped on the way home and got some Maccas for dinner, ordered chicken nuggets so they would be easy to eat while driving. I received chicken wings instead, which failed the easy to eat test but were very tasty. I'm not sure how the staff in those places can handle busy periods, it was absolute chaos in the kitchen there.

I also got some petrol - drove in the wrong side of the pump on autopilot, but remembered before I got out and did a loop around to the right side.

The pets are very glad I am home (and that they finally got dinner). I put away the frozen stuff I brought up, and Miss Meow took the opportunity to explore the garage and van a bit while I had the door open. I also put out the bins, the new pet fencing I put up worked well - I can reach the bins easily over the fence, and don't have to worry about Mr Woof while I have the side gate open putting them out.

Finally feeling human enough to try one of the new toys I got before The Crud hit. Very much room for improvement, but I think we shall be friends.

I'm back at my old place today. It looks really tatty without the furniture hiding things. It's amazing how dirty walls can get. Vacuuming is improving things slightly, but it really needs a good renovation (if it's not knocked down entirely).

I've dismantled Miss Meow's old cat tree, when the weather warms up I'll use the pieces to make her an outdoor tree in the covered area.

Next main task is a quick cleanup of my nasty carpet stain. It was caused by a dented tin of plums fermenting and spraying juice everywhere. But it looks like a murder scene.

It's not blood, I promise!

not perfect, but a vast improvement. A good stain treatment could probably deal with the last of it.

Poor norflands just can't catch a break this year huh

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

Visiting Northland is a game of roulette - will I be stabbed, suffer smoke inhalation, or get run over by a rampaging car? Maybe all 3 if visiting on the same day?

Help! I am trying to write a job application for a secondment position and it’s like pulling teeth. Haven’t written to selection criteria for years so am very rusty, and the procrastination is kicking in. So far have called Medicare and done other life admin, and the vacuuming is looking tempting.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It sucks but if you look up the STAR method it will give you some structure. Then you can just fill in the blanks instead of writing things from scratch.

I also saved all my selection criteria responses in a master document so I could just roll them out for other applications since so many positions ask for the same thing

[–] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Thanks, that’s a good tip. I know I can do all the things, but somehow writing it down formally is difficult

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago

It's hard when you haven't done it in a while. Once you enter Jobseeker Mode you get into a better rhythm and you start seeing things you do at work from the perspective of how it would look on your resume. It's good to enter that mode occasionally to keep things up to date

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Put the selection criteria and some of your key words into chat gpt. Don't use what it produces word for word, but let it help you build your application. I hadn't written an application in 20+ years but it got me the position.

[–] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

Oh, good idea. Chat gpt definitely writes better than me, lol. It’s been nearly that long between job applications for me, too. I’d like something different but there’s a lot of work involved in changing jobs and I’m very out of practice

Had a bit of a snack and a glass or two of water.

Feeling. A little bit better now.

Need to keep drinking water just incase I’ve got something to flush it out and I need plenty of rest.

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago

Motivation levels are slow today, only just managed to get started on work after sitting around for an hour.

It's going to be a slow day.

Also unlucky today, have to cover a duty at lunch.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago

After a pretty busy work week things have settled down today. Managed to knock off my major tasks and it's halfway through morning.

Hopefully people will forget about me and leave me alone for the rest of the week.

[–] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No, brain, you do not need to investigate whether computers still need disk defragmentation…

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

SSDs - no. Standard hard drives depends. IIRC (from when this thought struck me and I could not resist the rabbit hole) Linux ext type file system doesn't really need it and Mac/windows do it automatically. So unless your disk is nearly full and / or you are doing something weird it is a thing of the past...

Such a lovely thing though...all those bits sorting themselves out...

Need to summon the will to cook so good scraps don’t stink up the bin for a week.

I don’t feel so well today and tired as well.
