I often shop spontaneously and forget to bring a reusable bag. Still, I didn't buy a plastic bag in years. Instead, I usually just grab an (almost) empty box from the shelves. There are boxes in all sizes depending on the volume of your goods. It saves the store work and trash and gives the box at least a short second life before I put into recycling myself.

Many grocers in my area stack empty boxes in the front by checkout for this purpose. Take a box and use it for your groceries.

That's really cool and IMO a win win solution. At least I don't expect that supermarkets have a big margin on the plastic bags that they sell at the check out.

I forget and buy a new one almost every time. Almost wish they'd just go the biodegradable disposable route... Would certainly be cheaper for me.

They have paper bags at mine. I use them for compost.

Be nice if they wrapped meat and vegetables in paper instead of plastic
