1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

We came back a day early after spoting a brown bear 30 meters from our camp. We pitched a tarp for shelter and slept soundly under the stars. My son and I both agreed the food and mountains were the best parts of the trip.

Thanks for that. I really enjoyed it, it was the most refreshing and needed vacation of my life.

Glad to hear it! You deserve it, I'm glad to say my own refreshing vacation is coming up in August.

Hm. Reminds me of this one:

spring

Taken many years ago on a trip with my son.

Great. It's not easy getting teenagers to enjoy something they do together with their parents. A few years back I took mine sailing the Baltic sea on a small boat. He loved it. Not my boat though, we were both guests. And the captain knew how to make a kid feel good about participating.

I bet that was a blast, how long were you guys out on the water?

We spent one night on an island, so a few hours getting there, a few hours back the next day. Though we took our time, it was a former military base with old torpedos and a huge "officer's sauna" that was on the whole day. Good times.

That sounds like an amazing father kid trip, do you have pictures of the base?

https://visitisosaari.fi/en/frontpage/ That website is a hog, be careful.

I didn't take many pictures, but here's part of an old torpedo:

old torpedo, isosaari

FWIW, there's many otherwise uninhabited islands in the Finnish archipelago that are open to tourists and have a fireplace, a sauna and other amenities., and their harbours are free.
