Edited title to not use potentially opinionated "outsider" term. Original article title does use it

“Outsider”??? Word choice is so important, and an “outsider” often has negative connotations. Outsiders are other, not like us, different, strange.

Point being: when are we going to start holding these “traditional media” outlets accountable for going out of their way to mischaracterize anyone slightly left of alt-right?

I’m sorry, but that word choice is intentional to cast Mamdani in a negative light. I’m just so tired and done with this bullshit. Fuck you, BBC. You’re an embarrassment to journalism.

Can't change the BBC title, but did edit the title here to remove that now that you point that out

Good news, seems they did it themselves. Either that or I’m intensely confused by this thread..

Currently reads “Left-wing Democrat stuns former governor in NY mayor primary”.

Ah yep looks like they updated their title again. Not sure I like that it's vaguer about it all with no names listed but at least it's less judgemental

Seems to be showing up under a few different title, really annoying how news sites do this nowadays.

Also, "outsider" is a weird thing to call a sitting assemblyman in his third term.

I just took it as a way to say “not the incumbent”

Thank GOD. I so dearly hope this in the beginning of the end for traditional Democrats.

I think the clearest beginning was Bernie's 2016 presidential run.

Wouldn't be BBC if they didn't try to ratfuck a leftist.

BBC continues to disappoint me more than the new King.

Good news? In this day and age?

An actual progressive, see https://www.zohranfornyc.com/

Policies ranging from city-owned grocery stores to taxing the rich to making NYC busses free and more

[–] ianhclark510@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

nah, I meant Cuomo, guy is such a crank I expect he has some alterior motive

[–] usernamesAreTricky@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago

He's also signed paperwork to run as an independent in the general election in case he lost the primary.

"I said he won the primary election," Cuomo told the outlet. "I said I wanted to look at the numbers and the ranked-choice voting to decide about what to do in the future, because I'm also on an independent line."

Though he probably expected it to be far closer than this. Zohran massively outperformed polls. No polls had him winning the first round let alone by this much (even the few polls that had Zohran winning)

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

He's hinted at a third party run in the general. I dunno, maybe he thinks denying reality and holding on the whole way to an inevitable loss would make him look weak for that.

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

He's probably looking to his rich donors to see if they are going to pressure Eric Adams to drop out of running as an independent as well.

If they are both running as independent then the low information voters will split their votes which will help Mamdani win.

The have to do some research to see how they can ratfuck the mayoral election now that the primary is done.

[–] ianhclark510@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, derp, primary! Makes sense, I didn’t connect that the mayor of NYC was a partisan position

[–] EpeeGnome@feddit.online 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I thought mayor was a partisan position in every US city. If fact, in the US every elected position is effectively a partisan position, even the rare ones that officially aren't.

Well it’s okay to be wrong :) welcome to one of today’s 10,000 internet stranger
