Just a reminder that the "border" in the US extends 100 miles inland from any actual physical border - so 100 miles inland from Canada, Mexico, the Atlantic, Pacific or Arctic oceans, or the Gulf of Mexico.

And that for the last decade or so, they've also been trying to claim that any international airport is also a border, so the "border" would extend 100 out from Denver, Saint Louis, Indianapolis, etc.

And they've been trying to claim that an "international" airport is any airport capable of landing an international flight, regardless of whether any international flights actually fly there.

Surprised they haven't labelled the space border as one.

Worth noting that they consider "the border" to be within 100 miles of any entry point.

Here's a map:

Add to that 100 miles of any international airport:

Multiple states are entirely within the "border". Who doesn't think of western Massachusetts as "the border"? Or noted border state Maryland and noted border city Chicago.

If we throw off the yoke of fascism, we need to scrap all this war-on-terror authoritarian-enabling bullshit. Obama should have done it, but he listened to too many fantasies about bringing the nation together and earning respect from conservatives. Abolish ICE was right all along.

There is something off about your second map. I don’t remember that much of Oklahoma being part of Texas for instance.

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 days ago

As a Texan, I can confirm that we consider that Texas too. We just let them keep the methy parts. /s

Huh, I've definitely heard about the border extending a hundred miles in land from the Mexican and Canadian borders and the coasts before, but I'd never heard about that 100 mile radius from international airports and I can't seem to find any official sources that back that up

It's probably irrelevant, though, if you're trying to go anywhere near any airport the TSA will do whatever they want with you

And either way, the gigantic "constitution doesn't apply here" zones we've created are absurd

e; Actually, multiple people are saying the airport thing now in this thread, so it seems like this probably is a thing and I just missed the news story about it somehow

There aren’t any official sources to the claim, however, they have tried to argue it in court before. They clearly just do whatever they want and then lie in court later because they know there are zero consequences and no rule of law in the USA.
