Thanks for bringing this to my attention, OP. I had heard of the problems with .ml but haven’t seen it laid out as well as you did.
I’d definitely prioritise an instance that doesn’t federate with them.
"Oh, this is calamity! Calamity! Oh no, he's on the floor!"
Welcome to MoG!
Meanwhile On Grad
Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!
What is a Tankie?
(caution of biased source)
Basic Rules:
Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.
Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.
Apologia — (Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.
Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.
Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.
Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Lemmy.cafe is a wonderful little instance that defeds from the whole Triad while federating with most of the rest of the network
I’m on .world ~~which has defederated from .ml~~. What are the other two in the triad?
.world has not defederated from Lemmy.ml, I really wish they would, being the largest it would be of huge boost to the health of the Threadiverse
But the others are Hexbear and Lemmygrad (if you wanna see some of the things they say, check this thread out (viewed as a local post outside your client) https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/48132283)
Thanks for the heads up. I’m surprised that the support channel/community on .world doesn’t have a post requesting outright defederation from .ml. I’ve searched through nearly two years of posts there but found nothing substantial.
I don't think it was on the support comm, but they did respond on a thread about it once on why they don't defed from them like they did the other 2.
It boiled down to 3 things: big comms, official Lemmy support comms and the fact the devs rolled out instance blocking tools
The 1st one, I'm hopefully solving with my cross-posting and calls for boycotting, the third one is by calling attention to the fact that it doesn't work as one would think. Pretty sure everyone thought block meant block when it was being discussed.
Hexbear and Lemmygrad, prolly
hexbear and lemmygrad, hexbear is pretty ultra left , when i was ee i was encountering the posts quite often enough that accidentally have posted in thier communities. i blocked all 3 as of currently.
Who ever is suprised by this clearly has yet to interact with someone from Lemmy.ml
I just use old.lemmy.world but I was quite surprised to see a direct link to TheGrayZone on the very top of it.
It bears repeating: Russia is bombarding us with propaganda.
even reddit wouldnt allow this for the most part on the main news subs. its the reddit rejects that flood to these instances.
Means we have to isolate them. Together
