Unknown Worlds saying "no loot boxes" is like a cereal company saying "we don't plan to add any mice to this batch of corn flakes". I, uh, never thought you were going to?

As usual, money ruins everything.

The most favorable reading of the announcement is that the people who were let go wanted to put in loot boxes, but you are probably right that it is the opposite and they just wanted to put the fired people on the defensive before leaning in hard on loot boxes.

They might as well have just said "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain".

Because a giant publisher swooped in, got rid of three old higher ups and replaced them with a guy who use to work at EA. And they instantly started talking about the things like this.
