So, we make landfall in about 18 days. We’re effectively starting fresh.

I absolutely will need at the minimum a basic coffee maker to assist me in remaining human. We’ll also need a ton of usb wall adapters.

We’re planning on taking it easy the day we land, but we’ll hit the ground running hopefully the day after.

Initially we’re staying in Stones Corner, but we’re also open to exploring.

Where do you recommend for picking up basic home goods to get up and running?

Find a pub with a chicken parmigiana and without pokies (gambling).

Find a pub ... without pokies

challenge: impossible.

Kmart would probably be the cheapest. I still use my Kmart microwave and blender 5 years on. If you’re looking for bigger appliances I’ve always had good service and delivery from Appliances Online.

Kmart and Bunnings are your go-tos for most things. Target and Big W are good too for the things Kmart would have. Kmart particularly is good for quick cheap stuff. Bunnings is mostly trady stuff, but you can also get a lot of home electronics like powerboards (I particularly like my outlet tower with 3 USB-A ports and one USB-C).

For electronics where quality matters a bit more (particularly your kitchen stuff), JB Hifi or Good Guys.

(Note: if you're American, our Kmart and Target are effectively entirely unrelated from yours.)

Many thanks for all that. I was wondering how Kmart and Target translated across the water. I’m definitely looking forward to visiting Bunnings (Hammer Barn?) for a sausage and restocking the tool collection.

The sausages are not every day (weekends only, perhaps even only on Sundays). They are run by local charities, clubs as fundraisers so the quality and offering differs a little each time. Bunnings does mandate a few things to even things out.

It's also not all day. Go mid-morning for the best chance.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I figured it would be something of that sort. We’ll definitely miss the Girl Scouts and their damned cookies selling at the entrances here.

I'm told that "thin mints" are one of the most popular options for Girl Scout biscuits? Personally I can't stand mint-flavoured food, but if that's what you want, I'm pretty sure Arnott's Mint Slices (or various off-brand versions of the same) will serve you well.

My wife appreciates your suggestions there. She’s all about the Thin Mints. I lean heavily towards the Samoas/Caramel deLites.

Hmm unfortunately I don't know those two well enough to provide a rec for something similar here. There's a lot of diversity in our bikkie isles though so I'm sure you'll find something you like.
