Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1404 readers
74 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

The OP and mod for the community edited the headline and melted down when questioned about it.

Edit: forgot this:

And this happened after locking the post and not answering the question:

Yes I used an alt to show disrespect to someone who was hostile.

Honestly I find Sunshine generally very toxic and try not to engage with any of her posts or communities.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 13 points 2 weeks ago

I do the same. She is such a prolific poster, and I really do not think she has the time to read 1/2 of what she posts. I think she sees the title of an article and posts it.

[–] KombatWombat@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh, it's Sunshine again. Just going to copy another comment I've made about her last time I saw she was involved in some drama.

Sunshine has a history of power tripping, and is able to avoid attention for it by using alts. As Beaver, they put the lemmy.world vegan community in trouble with admins over that vegan cat food drama, then later banned respected members of the community for "downvoting vegan comments". They were ostensibly de-modded when another mod spoke up, but if memory serves they actually still had their Sunshine alt on the mod list months later.

Someone else provided some more context here, but it seems that post was deleted. Or at least I can't access it anymore.

While trying to search for that post I saw that more recently, the admin of VeganTheoryClub accused her of harassing them across multiple accounts until they abandoned their account and closed their instance.

So anyway, I go with PTB by default. But I would say in cases where the original ban was legitimate, using an alt for ban evasion would itself be a bannable offense in my eyes.

Holy crap, I just went down that rabbit hole after clicking your links. Wow. Just wow. Thanks for this detailed post. You explained it all perfectly.

[–] commie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

there is more

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 weeks ago

Now she is editing her comments so I can't respond

[–] qaz@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

What are you referring to?

I just see a link with no context

EDIT: OP has added context

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There is a whole back and forth. On the otherside of the link.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I’m not seeing any comments. Please post a screenshot of the modlog per community rules.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago
[–] lemonmelon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Point of fact, you're referencing a guideline, not a rule.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

A guideline is something you should do, where a rule is something you are required to do.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hmm I don’t find that very clear in this context but alright.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And, um, asking from 2025, but which is which?

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yes I used an alt to show disrespect to someone who was hostile.

I'm gonna have to say BRP just based on that. The fact that you took Lemmy so seriously that you went to the trouble to use an alt just to "show disrespect to someone" is cringe. This ain't prison, man.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not saying I was in the right for that action.

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 weeks ago

I respect ya for owning up to it tho. Good on ya, mate!

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm curious what the accusations of double voting are about. Does she think you are using an alt to upvote yourself? Seems like an insanely small thing to get angry about.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, I did use an alt after the post was locked and I was banned. I can't see the voting records and I would suspect she did the same.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Gotcha, that makes sense. That's more or less what I meant by seems super small to get angry over. I find it difficult to believe a single persons capacity to make multiple accounts and vote makes all that much difference in any one thread

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Thanks for taking the time.

Edit: the double voting is my way of showing a lack of respect in this situation.

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Edit: the double voting is my way of showing a lack of respect in this situation.

And that's very much against most comms rules. I'm not saying your point was wrong, but the way you approached it was.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes I used an alt to show disrespect to someone who was hostile.

Y'all deserve each other lol

Why waste time. Just block community, post here to document and move on.

Don't waste time on people who lack maturity for proper discourse.

I recognize your handle from flame wars.

So, is this hard won advice?

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nothing wrong with a small circle jerk...

Using an alt is where I draw a line personally

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago
[–] SheeEttin@lemmy.zip -1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

PTB for sure, but also BPR based on the comments.

Edit: full YDI since both of those accounts were you.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by BRP?

Edit: Looked up the acronym.

Eh, not sure I agree as the mod kinda lost her shit especially when the community rules don't mention swearing.

I asked without any of the "problematic language" and got the same response.

Tried to get an answer.

I then just laughed and pointed out their behaviour.

[–] SheeEttin@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bait-provoked reaction. All the acronyms are in the sidebar.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Yeah, I acted like a dipshit not looking for it first.

Edit: bit of a response above if interested

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

You can both suck 💞! Together! Isn't togetherness great?

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, no. See only the double voting was me.

[–] Nanook@lemmy.zip -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

lol someone’s has long toes.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have no idea what you are referring to.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Cool, you have an inverted nose.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

Sorry I was just playing along bc it sounds so silly in english without context. Having long toes implies that your toes getting stepped on was your own fault- i.e., they're saying you're sensitive

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It looks to me like Sunshine actually did answer your question (she wanted more people to see the post). But you just replied that it wasn't "the answer you were looking for" and kept badgering her about it. It's not against our instance rules to editorialize article titles anyway, so I don't know what your problem with it was, since you never actually expressed it afaik.

So in this case, it seems like a BPR or YDI.

[–] Ganbat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

It looks to me like Sunshine actually did answer your question (she wanted more people to see the post). But you just replied that it wasn't "the answer you were looking for" and kept badgering her about it.

That's visibly not what happened. Someone else, thinking it was OP that changed the title, asked why the band name was removed from the title rather rudely. Sunshine responded as you said she responded to OP. OP then actually joined the conversation, asking how removing the band name helps with visibility in a perfectly polite fashion. Sunshine refused to respond to this, instead choosing to go on a tangent about the other person being rude and getting defensive about people assuming malice in her actions. That's when OP said "not the answer I was looking for," which seems perfectly fair, considering OPs question was never actually answered. OP then asked why the attitude matter was being brought up to them, and Sunshine just called them arrogant.

This is all visible in screenshots seen here.

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 weeks ago

Ok, I actually didn't notice you weren't the first commenter. In that case I retract my previous comment. PTB.
