Love that my choice for streaming music boils down to "which greedy, amoral billionaire do I want to support with my money?" It's so great here.

Have you tried one from the communist country (according to US media) of France ?

I'm trialling this now. Looks promising, EU-based and no shady investors for as far as I can tell. Good sound quality too.

They pay the artists pretty fairly compared to others too

Ah, AI. His plan is to replace every artist other than the huge ones with fake AI bullshit anyway.

Yep, this is what finally broke the camel's back for me. Had been meaning to get off it since Dan Ek decided that supporting Trump and Joe Rogan was the thing to do, but hadn't got round to it.

Cancelling Spotify and subscribing to Qobuz took all of five minutes. The sound quality is much better, the albums of the week are actually interesting and curated by human beings, the app works perfectly and streams to all our devices, and we're no longer giving money to that dickhead.

Other alternative music streaming services are available. Go on, it's easier than you think.

I just use streaming services to find new music to download.

Partying here like it's 2005!!

In all seriousness Spotify has always been a sneaky way for label executives to get even richer, at the behest of artistic efforts. They've always been trying to practically enslave musicians, for pennies, and services like Spotify help them get away with it more by pretending it's a solution to piracy. I just think that piracy angle was a big ruse to further control and rip out those final stitches in their pockets.
It's worse when it's found that the top artists can just pay to be recommended (e.g.: the Drake situation not too long ago) making it even harder for some to get much of a reach if at all.

Probably why so many artists are going independent these days. I bought a few albums lately, direct from the artist websites, and I don't even need to look at the stats to know a great amount of those payments went to the musicians.
