Put a half cup of ammonia in the wash. Don't mix with bleach. Dry as soon as it's done washing. No more funk.

You don't need ammonia. Just warm cycle and a half cup of detergent. Fill the softener dispenser with vinegar. Extra rinse cycle is good to remove any residue. Hang within a few hours of washing. If you can't hang them outside, aim a fan at the hanger.

I haven't had this problem in years.

I just clean my washing machine every week and keep the machine door open, it never smells
