I get the porn stuff (actually no, I don't!), but Postal 2? Seriously??

Nice move GOG!! I don't think I will ever play them, but you never know!! Claimed!!

but Postal 2? Seriously??

The Postal series was one of the first to be targeted for censorship, and considering GOG is Good OLD Games, it makes sense to include it in a bundle responding to censorship.

"Shortly after the game’s release, Postal would become the target of US Senator Joe Lieberman, who previously played a significant role in creating the ESRB. While he’s overall supportive of the ESRB and ratings practices assigned to video games nowadays, the volatile content of Postal certainly set him off, describing it, Marilyn Manson, and Calvin Kline underwear ads as the β€œthree worst things in American society.” While Vince Desi admittedly appreciated any news coverage of their games, Lieberman would strike a chord with RWS, with Postal 2 featuring an entire difficulty mode named after him. Dubbed β€œLiebermode,” it’s the easiest difficulty setting, significantly modifying health values, enemy hostility, and more."

Yeah. Postal 1 I think would be good.

Postal 2 was racist and mean spirited and leaned entirely into it in full edgelord shit. I firmly believe it has the right to exist but also think adding it to this collection is a mistake.

It may be a rights thing. Postal 2 is the one they have, so it's the one we got. Didn't the IP rights to Postal change hands multiple times between games? I dimly remember a Civvie rant to that effect.

The first appears to be forever free on GOG, so no need to include it in a "sale" like this.

Yeah....

I like GoG in general but they have a LONG history of "performative" bullshit and... yeah. At least one of those games is a pretty infamous DLC sink and the other ones I am familiar with are mostly "Yeah... the first game is horrifically mid but the second one is where it is at" and are the studios that leapt to have sales the moment they heard the news back when it was just Steam.

I still think this is a net good (minus postal 2) but... I have a hard time seeing this as particularly altruistic. Which, actions and all, but still...

@partial_accumen @leave_it_blank The RWS developers' office appeared in the original game, with little protesters marching back and forth in front of it. You could of course unload on the protesters.

By the way, the Kids Online safety act isn't the only threat to internet free speech. There's another act that has gone under the radar, the screens act that may potentially affect internet access and free speech too: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1623/text

[–] Neon_Carnivore@lemmy.zip 15 points 6 days ago

If you claim this, make sure you go to the GOG store proper and claim the House Party holiday DLC's, they're free, too.

I cannot redeem this. After solving the captcha and an error message occured. I also tried different browsers.

[–] banazir@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It seems others have had issues too, so I suggest reading the promo thread on GOG. It's possible country restrictions apply.

Do I have the freedom to buy Devotion by RedCandleGames? Or is some censorship fine?

[–] swelter_spark@reddthat.com 1 points 5 days ago

Nice, I've been wanting to play Treasure of Nadia.

[–] s38b35M5@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Weird. The links are all dead, but if you go to the GOG press release, they link to the store page for each game, where they aren't free; any of them.

[–] banazir@lemmy.ml 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I think you have to get the bundle, not individual games: Freedom to buy games

I'm getting Good Old GOGBear right now, but earlier when I tried I could add the bundle to my cart. It should work eventually.

[–] s38b35M5@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

You're right. It worked after some time and the entire bundle was required.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They appear to be dead because there is a fuckload of traffic on the site.

[–] s38b35M5@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Quite so. Got it working now. Free is free!

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Oh wow. They're all NSFW games. 😳

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

And I got them all. Wish I could stream them. We'll I do have a VPN. Wonder if it isn't to late to start my NSFW Let's Play videos?
