Knowing a few basic words doesn't mean you "speak a language".

She didn't have the words for "food", "drink" and "surgery", but has the basic words for no and basic times

As you'd expect, one learns "no", "after" and "tomorrow" before words like "surgery"

That's really nice handwriting, I think the nurse knows English but isn't comfortable using it. Copying from a translation wouldn't be that legible without practice, I've been practicing for 30 years and it doesn't look that neat
