Meanwhile On Grad

Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Just block their instance, and report any .ml that is perpetuating tankies on other communities

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

While good for an individual users' sanity, it doesn't really solve the problem and is holding back wider uptake and harming the Threadiverses reputation

I'm amazed they set a timeout for the bans.

also, is it just me, or is that bubblybubbles user the latest iteration of the full-time tankie propagandist? 6 days old account. there were at least 2 previous accounts that were nonstop churning news and memes of the tankie worldview, the later one being jackeroni, and this one seems to be milder than both of those.

Tankies use .ml as spaces for their alt accounts, most of them are organised across discord and matrix.

I love this thread and comments are possible with Lemmy, even contrasting the uproar the Lemmy devs itself make without affecting code.

This is exactly how exactly things like these work. Awesome.

Me waiting to donate to Lemmy on the first day Dessalines has more commits than mod actions and dying of old age:

Don't counter their propaganda in their communities, just leave them to their delusions.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There's pros and cons to it, on the one hand is your point to just leave them to their delusions. And for instances like hex and Grad, I fully agree with you.

Unfortunately, .ml is in a special place as few instances want to widely defed from them for fear of backlash from the devs and losing support from them (which is a fair point, I can totally see dessalines being that petty)

So having people counter their propaganda is more for newer users to see that there is push back on their crap and less about getting tankies to change their views

Not to mention there are still many highly active non-political communities on ML.

ML admins/mods acting like the goons that they are is a good incentive for such communities to move off ML.

Thankfully, the only comms that don't have a .ml alternative that beats them in MAUs is Linux and Privacy, but !linux@programming.dev and !privacy@programming.dev are getting there!

we are at war with russia, we should defederate from instances that support russian, anti-west propoganda, unquestioningly

they do not even allow open discussion and have not done for a long time

time for .world to disconnect from the fetid twisted pupa

The thing is...originally (in June 2023) .ml felt like a normal instance, which gradually became hopeless. Now I feel like they are starting to spill into some .world communities. I hope lemmy is not going to be eaten up by tankies as it gets more popular and pushes out non-normie sane people.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I just block any user with .ml, if I see them astroturfing, maybe I should report them?

[–] rikudou 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh, I really meant on their communities, as in leave the .ml alone. But when they spread their bullshit in communities on other servers, counter it if course.

[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, but I felt that when these debates were had in .ml, it was better because it left .world cleaner, but as people give up on .ml, they have more room to keep spilling out (they have nothing to debate with themselves). Maybe people actually gave up because the moderation became openly hostile over time.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

Once it becomes a full echo chamber there is no one to argue with, because they all agree so they have to find other communities to stir shit

Its a different instance
