Shouldn't be shocked that something containing addictive substances is in fact addictive.

A big part of the problem is people buy it not knowing it contains addictive substances. Im really into drugs (science and the chemistry not really doing them) so I already heard about kratom but apparently most people just have never heard of it.

What? Kratom is legal in the US?

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Every tobacco outlet and shitty gas station has it. But God damnit, you will not have marijuana!!!

[–] zammy95@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Advertised in giant neon signs too!

I mean show me a shitty gas station without delta 8 available.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

My state doesn't even have delta 8. Its a $10,000 fine.

Yes. In fact, one time someone was handing out samples of pre-workout gummies outside the gym I go to, and they contained kratom. It wasn't even prominently stated on the packaging. I almost just ate one right away, but then I thought, "Eh, let me check the nutrition facts to see how much caffeine these have first." Turns out, they had kratom in them.

That’s fucked up.

You would think sellers would be more cautious with Kratom so it won’t get banned.

In most states, yes; as is it's derivative, 7-hydroxymitragynine which has very similar effects to opiates.

I see stuff advertising it all the time here, but have no idea wth it is

And I just looked it up -WTF it’s fucking herbal opium

I haven't tried opium or heroin. But I've taken a fair bit of kratom. But now it's illegal in my country.

It's effect is pretty mild compared to opiates. Take a light dose, it gives you energy and elevates your mood. A heavier dose makes you relaxed and mildly euphoric.

To me it wasn't very addictive other than I used it to work longer hours when renovating my house. Also good when you do heavy labor since it also have pain relieving effects. So I took it more or less daily for about two months, then I quit. The first days I noticed my mood was a little dampened but nothing more than that.

I only tried it in natural powdered form. But in some countries there are extracts and products that are more potent, which probably is worse to quit.

Also hard, at least for me to overdo it since if I take to much I get nauseous. But maybe that's just me.

Overall I find it a very useful and practical drug.

Not exactly, but yes, it does look like it

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Opium is also herbal. It comes from poppies.

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I know. Was trying to make a point for comedic effect

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 7 points 3 days ago

My grocery store sells kratom and kava drinks next to the energy drinks. It's insane to me, there's no indication of the intoxicating effects or the risk of addiction on the cans

[–] boatswain@infosec.pub 5 points 3 days ago

Sure seems to be. I see it advertised here and there pretty often.
