Fediverse vs Disinformation

1561 readers
101 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

AINSLEY EARHARDT (FOX HOST): So the president implemented this Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force and in less than a week they've taken 100 violent criminals off the streets. I think it's great. I wouldn't mind seeing the National Guard, especially if it's in areas where there is a lot of crime. I mean, think about Times Square. There is a lot of crime there. We cover a lot of stories there. If they had National Guard troops in Times Square it would make me feel safer.

Why are these people so fucking afraid of everything?

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 42 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Because they know that if they don't stop keeping everyone divided with lies and hate they'll be squarely under the chopping block.

Religious dogma that if they die in a state of sin, they'll burn in hell forever. It's a disease.

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So the answer is then to sin as hard and fast as you can, at all times? What, are they trying to outrun God's karma counter or what?

I was thinking more mass deflection so people don't notice they're stealing everything that's not nailed down

It's in the nature of conservatives to be afraid, it's their fundamental motivating emotion. That's why they're so eager to put their tough strong daddy into office who promises to put things back to the reassuring, comfortable way they used to be.

I'm pretty sure times square has been a boring advertising friendly place for like 20+ years.

You don't go there because it's crowded (tourists and commuters) and uninteresting, not because of crime.

The crime is the terrible soft pretzels being sold for like $8

keep a list of everything said on stations like this. it’s all collaborative and meant to manufacture consent for more fascism. checkpoints. papers please. etc.

related reminder: you do NOT need to stop for unmarked vehicles trying to pull you over. call 911, report the attempted kidnapping. caveat: outcomes may vary based on skin color. :(

Tuesday's arrests included: one arrested on suspected homicide, seven related to narcotics charges, 33 for alleged firearm offenses, 10 related to warrants, as well as the arrests of 23 illegal immigrants. Law enforcement recovered a total of 24 firearms on Tuesday, according to the White House.

I’d love to see what the rest of the week looked like. They must have arrested 99 violent criminals on the other days of the week.

You should know that the moment Ainsley Earhardt makes a dispariging comment against the system, she is headed straight to Room 101

Times Square? The most aggressive crime I know of there are overly aggressive costumed characters and those are easy to avoid. Have they not been to Times Square since the 1980s when it was full of porn theaters?

I bring my rocket launcher to the M&Ms store. As a precaution.

If the national guard would remove all the seditionist treasonists from Fox, I would feel much safer

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Why do we care about feelings now?! The fuck is this world and why are we letting them get away with this shit. Bunch of fucking drivel spewing out of the mouths of broken horses.

Just saying, that's like 1:1 to what they did during furgeson. Remember those, you fuckhead Dixon?
