Tens of thousands of demonstrators have gathered in Tel Aviv to call for an end to the war in Gaza and the release of hostages, one of the largest demonstrations in Israel since the start of the fighting in October 2023.

The rally on Sunday evening was the culmination of a day of nationwide protests and a general strike to pressure the government to halt the military campaign. “Bring them all home! Stop the war!” shouted the vast crowd, which had converged on the so-called Hostage Square in Tel Aviv plaza – a focal point for protesters throughout the war.

The GENOCIDE, not the war.

[–] sheogorath@lemmy.world 25 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Well, they want to end the war but not the genocide.

Best description of Israeli pro-"peace" sentiment I've ever seen.

Netanyahu is leading in the latest polls from what I read by a relatively comfortable margin, so I don't think he's feeling much pressure from within to stop before annexing parts of Gaza at the very least. Israelis are being taught to hate their neighbors with a passion all their lives and the genocide is justified in their eyes.

Exactly one lifetime since their own relatives were treated the same way. Rinse and repeat every few decades.

Long story short: That didn't happen. Long story long: About half of Israeli Jews are of Middle Eastern descent, and a majority of the rest are descended from Eastern Europeans who immigrated in the pre-WWII 20th century. While they did have a history of persecution, the vast majority of these guys didn't suffer anything close to what Israel is doing to Gazans right now.

That's a stretch. Most of them had zero relatives that were genocided. Instead most of them had relatives that started the genocide of non-white jews, never stopped and now are happy to continue.

I would like to remind eveyone here that only a statistically insignificant portion of the protestors are against the war for any moral purposes and the grand majority would be more than happy to see the GDF genocide every Palestinian.

OG poll source is paywalled, but figured it was better to have this here for people who haven't seen it than not.

Hey, my dudes, we have the land we wanted, and have killed as many as we wanted.

Let's demonstrate and make the world think that the majority are against the war.

They protested at the start of war, didn't do anything. Keep protesting sure, but I don't think they are stopping until Gaza is clear of all Palestinians

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Good start! Keep it going!

[–] middlemanSI@lemmy.world 13 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Don't you mean late start?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 7 points 14 hours ago

The best time to protest in Tel Aviv was 2023, the 2nd best time is now. ;)

Israel has gone way too far, war needs to end.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 13 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Israel has gone too far since 48

*1904 (start of the Second Aliyah). The flashier stuff gets more attention, but it's the Second Aliyah where the groundwork for the Zionist takeover really starts with the conquest of labor.
