Are you talking about YouTube? At least currently ublock is working fine in there and I have not encountered popups.
Yea it's possible that ublock patched their latest attempt, and it'll take some time before Google goes again
Arms race it is
I had another extension that was also modifying their ads. That may have been the trigger.
I'm sure they have people gathering analytics, generating reports and are preparing retros now.
A small team probably has a job to figure out the cost of cat and mouse versus the uptick in premium meanwhile they try to remove the bias of Black Friday and Christmas spending yada yada.
It's less likely but possible that they're even calculating in the loss of chrome viewership
If the numbers look promising, they might be planning/tuning their next version of the client and server architecture.
If money and revenue were no object they wanted to take this to the mat they could get us down to the point of needing to record the video and strip the commercials from it. There's nothing they can do to stop that. But they'd have to move the entire world to get to that point.
I’m sure they’ve figured out how to wring as much money as possible from users and creators.
With ublock origin I haven't encountered popups for weeks. They update pretty much every day to keep on top of the YouTube changes.
The only time I really got popups was when another extention I had was making ad changing modifications to YouTube which I didn't realize at that time.
That could’ve been my issue as well.
No popups for me on FF with unlock origin, but something weird happened yesterday, all videos on a playlist didn't play at all, they just skipped. Edit: Found out there was another extension triggering YouTube's ad detection, all's well now.
That could’ve been my issue as well.
For me it was enhancer for YouTube, it had a basic ad blocker that I had forgotten.
Same here. I’d completely forgotten that I had it running
I still haven't gotten any popups at all on Firefox with uBlock, not sure what's different about my setup
I’ve been getting them on FF, but now that someone else mentioned it, I also had a second extension that was blocking ads. It may have been that one that was triggering the popup.
