For the record, this character is a fabulously wealthy genius who lives on a private island with his hyper realistic sex robots

I'd probably say some shit like this, too, if I never had to deal with most of the crap that makes life hard lol

Ex Machina. Pretty good, worth a watch

Then he went to join the rebellion against the empire.

Using a meme from a dystopian movie for "hopeposting"? Balsy, for sure. Every human dies in that movie (Ex Machina).

Evey human dies in real life too, but why not enjoy the time between?

Absurdism is preferable to nihilism

Agreed, though I go back and forth depending on how depressed I am in a given moment.

I'm okay with being happy despite hardship, but I draw the line at gaslighting myself. I only bring it up because I have several friends who will choose to ignore anything negative, especially politics, even if it directly affects them.

What's wrong with gaslighting yourself? Self brain-washing can work just dandy.

Dad was running to fat, ran into his best friend he hadn't seen for years. John was fit as hell! Dad asked how he did it.

"Easy Bob. I just brainwashed myself into thinking being hungry was a good thing."

Dad did exactly that. Dropped the fat. I did the same many years later. Dropped the fat.

There was a great article I'll never find again, but it was about how you can imitate your hero, fictional or not, and reprogram yourself to be like that. Meh, that sounds wishy-washy, like bunk science, but I got it. Pretend to be that person, you will eventually be that person.

You can reprogram your brain. Ain't easy, but it can be done.

I was talking more in the 'climate change isn't happening", "there is no danger of fascism" and " AI will definitely be used to make human lives easier" sort of gaslighting.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is fine.

Every time I try to enjoy it I end up bothering people lol

My brain chemistry causes the physical structure that houses it to create the hatred and ambivalence emotions almost perpetually.

Is there an alternative?
