Good lord this screenshot hurts my eyes. Use dark mode for goodness sake

Light mode during the day, dark mode at night

[-] SorryQuick@lemmy.ca 44 points 11 months ago

I’m reading this at night though. Think of all the poor souls that will get flashbanged in the next few hours.

[-] Asudox@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

I'm a victim

Not that it matters but it’s a little insane that 8 people thought to downvote you because of how you choose your theme settings.

Like I’m dark mode on everything at all times, but I won’t downvote you for being different. Some folk be wack.

Doesn't that mean your brightness is set too high?

[-] Johanno@feddit.de 3 points 11 months ago

No your Mode is wrong!

[-] comrade19@lemmy.world 55 points 11 months ago

So that's how it happens. I thought I was getting old when I had to look up 'based' on urban dictionary.

[-] TimeSquirrel@kbin.social 48 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Thank god for that website, I can't imagine being an aging millennial in 1980 with all the kids talking about "radical" this and "cowabunga" that and not have anything to look up.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

"Cowabunga" shouldn't have been a mystery to them, at least, because it originates from Howdy Doody in 1949.

[-] TimeSquirrel@kbin.social 13 points 11 months ago

Wow. I totally thought it was just a Ninja Turtles thing. Thanks for that info.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago

Ninja Turtles got it from 60's surfer slang (since that's how Michelangelo speaks) and gave it new life for a few years.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 6 points 11 months ago

I'm curious, how recently did you have to look it up? For me it feels ancient compared to the likes of "rizz" but that's probably due to the circles I've been in.

[-] Edgarallenpwn@midwest.social 4 points 11 months ago

Based has been around for 10+ years. So weird hearing people say it again

This post is the first time that I realized reply lines were in rainbow order.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 30 points 11 months ago

Is it really pronounced "dub"? I've never heard it spoken.

[-] lustyargonian@lemm.ee 20 points 11 months ago

I internally say massive win but I do hear youtubers call it massive double u

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 30 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Ironic that pronouncing a single letter is more cumbersome than the full word.

[-] lustyargonian@lemm.ee 8 points 11 months ago
[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

"Every single other letter is one syllable, can we just pronounce this one 'wuh'"?

"No, it must have THREE!"

[-] lustyargonian@lemm.ee 7 points 11 months ago

English is indeed a funny language.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Germans: "Ridiculous! We will pronounce it like 'vay'".

"Well, that's a lot..."

"...AND 'Y' WILL BE 'OOPSILON'"!

I always hear it as double u

[-] prayer@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

Yeah, unless it was a really important win, then you might say it out entirely to emphasize your utter dominance over them.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago

Not exclusively, but sometimes.

Bright mode? [Hiss.]

[-] glibg10b@lemmy.ml 10 points 11 months ago

I was there when it was written

[-] ako946659663@lemm.ee 10 points 11 months ago

So this is why Golden State Warriors are called "Dubs"! Today I learned.

The nickname comes from people shortening Warriors to the letter W. The shorter form of the letter W is pronounced "Dub." It also helps that W represents the word "win" in the world of sports, so when their fans refer to them as the Dubs, they are also referring to the team as winners.

[-] sour@kbin.social 9 points 11 months ago
[-] prayer@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Still a dub

Hey! I’ve been invited to sports before. Some people think that me being large, tough, and angry would make me good at roller derby, unfortunately I’m also uncoordinated even when sober

If this some light mode joke I'm too dark mode to be able to read?

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

noun-pilled.

[-] FreshLight@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago

Wait is this person using Lemmy on a mobile browser?
