Hi, apologies in advance for what is probably quite a simple question but I've struggled to find exactly what I'm looking for.

My homelab is a Gen8 HP microserver, main functions are to run Homeassistant as well as provide storage, redundancy, backup and serving of home photos and video. Plus a few other less "critical" services.

I'm running all of this using OpenMediaVault and a bunch of Docker containers.

I've decided I really should protect the device with a UPS. No real need to run the server for long on a power outage, merely need the UPS to allow the server to power down safely.

What do I need to look for in terms of the UPS. Power draw for this server seems to be in the 50-100w range so spec wise most UPS I see should be up to the task but what is needed to allow the UPS to power down the server?

Thanks for your help. General info or specific recommendations gratefully received. I'm in the UK if that helps.

Generally you plug a cable in from the UPS to the server and install software that monitors the UPS. You would set up that software to power down the server.
