Free Wheely!

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 9 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

Aww, no turtles? Come on, turtles, you're so much faster than slugs and snails, go have a walk and demolish those distance figures! 🐒

[–] Hagdos@lemmy.world 11 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

It would be really surprising to see turtles on the wheel, considering there are no wild turtles in the Netherlands.

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 7 points 4 hours ago

Sure, there aren't wild turtles in the Netherlands. But this call was aimed at the turtles in general, worldwide! Turtles will be able to get to the Netherlands from the nearest location. Eventually. We believe in them!

Hermit crabs love them too!

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 11 points 10 hours ago

I have gerbils. Some of them love it and some couldn't care less. For one it took over 6 months of watching her sister and just sitting in it to figure out how it works. Once she did, there was no end to it.

Wait until corporations find out there are animals that want to do free labor and you don't have to feed them.

[–] Corn@lemmy.ml 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

They already do that for civet coffee.

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 10 points 8 hours ago

The civets are not in it voluntarily though. They do eat the coffee fruits spontaneously, but for civet coffea production they are usually captured and kept in tiny cages - it's really sad.

Hey! Ranking the species by distance is really unfair!

[–] bigfondue@lemmy.world 105 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

That makes the slugs even more impressive

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 55 points 21 hours ago (3 children)

I think slugs got tricked into thinking it was an endless surface and kept exploring it.

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 16 points 16 hours ago

Well now we need the MΓΆbius snail-exercise wheel to make this a reality

[–] bigfondue@lemmy.world 13 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

I think slugs will follow a slime trail, so maybe they are just following the infinite slime trail.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago

I need to put some wheels in my garden

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 22 points 18 hours ago

Thanks, the picture was way too far into the Jpeg realm

[–] RmDebArc_5@piefed.zip 32 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

[–] danekrae@lemmy.world 18 points 19 hours ago

Animals have Free Wheel

[–] Zerush@lemmy.ml 26 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

There are also bigger ones for cats, they also love it

Parrots love it too, but in a different way

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago

The cat cafe in Denver used to have a big one, it was great to see the cats take turns in it. One would just lay at the bottom of it and hog it from others who wanted to use it.

Getting in shape for mating season

[–] LapleMeaf@lemmy.world 24 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

That's a strange use of question marks?

[–] tromars@feddit.org 1 points 3 hours ago

I think they’re meant to express surprise or bewilderment here, which works imo

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 hours ago

Where’s @theUwUhugger@lemmy.world when you need β€˜em?

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 6 points 16 hours ago

I’m imagining a Bjenny Montero cartoon, where the cartoon frog character is running on the wheel and the cartoon slug character standing next to it says β€œHey! Quit hogging the wheel! I want a go.”

[–] fckreddit@lemmy.ml 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Now this is the type of science, I can get behind.

[–] CoffeeSoldier@sh.itjust.works 10 points 16 hours ago

Is most of science, something you cannot?

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Have you ever seen a human size wheel? They are pretty fun so I totally get it
