Let's get some original ideas in television.

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 40 points 6 days ago (4 children)

There are plenty. Severance? Shrinking? Ted Lasso? The Rehearsal? Murderbot? Pokerface? High Potential? The Pitt? Foundation? The Last of Us? The White Lotus? Stick?

There is absolutely no reason why I can't want another season of something I enjoy. As long as it isn't another season with Dave Franco.

The Last of Us

That's,,,, that's not an original idea?

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world -4 points 5 days ago (2 children)

It's a video game, not a TV show. Don't be pedantic.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 7 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Don't be pedantic.

You mean, don't be accurate. The fun thing about pedantry is that it isn't useless. It literally is about the meaning of words. If you use the wrong words and are incorrect, you don't get to blame other people for correcting you.

Original means original, not a remake, not an adaptation, not a re-invisioning.

I mean, it's still not an original idea. We have so many adaptions as well and I want to see more new ideas. Some of my favourite shows are adaptions but I'm so sick of the discourse around "did they do it right or not" when there could just be original ideas.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 10 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Many of those are adaptations.

The relationship between Foundation the TV series and Foundation the books is so slight you could almost call it original

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It's still an original idea and not a reboot

In film and TV, original means it was not derived from pre-existing source material. Reboots, adaptations, remakes and revivals are not original.

that’s patently not what “original” means in any industry bc that’s a definition that doesn’t functionally work. all art, from any time or place, is inspired and derived from prior works, and heavily so. there is no such thing as making something entirely “original,” this is a capitalist myth to cut you off from your heritage as a human being. this fetishization of “originality” is peak capitalist brainrot vibes. everything iterates on everything else. this isn’t fucking news, it’s how it’s always been, and if we could stop using state violence to enforce the “ownership” of ideas and IP we could all be free once again. westerners have forgotten what freedom is, what it means.

You are proof that people with different opinions can agree on things. I agree about wanting more Scrubs, but baby Franco was probably the best part of that terrible 9th season.

[–] TwoDogsFighting@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago

Pokerface is just Columbo that moves around a lot.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Let's get some original ideas in the comments.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Adam Sandler is like in love with a girl or something... But then it turns out she is a golden retriever.

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

The title: Shallow Howl.

[–] hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 days ago

Can we just leave things be?

[–] Microw@piefed.zip 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I still want Eliza Coupe back as Denise!

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

She's great in Future Man, if you haven't seen it.

[–] Microw@piefed.zip 2 points 4 days ago

I'll add it to my watch list

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] LastYearsIrritant@sopuli.xyz 3 points 5 days ago

You mean Dr. Jan Itor?

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That's honestly surprising. She hasn't done anything with scrubs since the end of season 8. It honestly seemed like she didn't like them or something

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 30 points 6 days ago (2 children)

She was always billed lowest, and generally de-emphasized in marketing materials despite having the third or fourth most screentime depending on the season (After JD and Cox, and later Turk after season 4).

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago (2 children)

They also kind of made her out to be a pain in the ass with little redeeming qualities over the years.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 16 points 6 days ago

Maybe the writers didn't like her as a character. She was usually the "straight man" to JD and Turk goofing off. There was the love triangle with Cox, but that fizzled and went nowhere. She sort of became best friends with Elliot, but they didn't seem to have any genuine chemistry or shared interests, so it always seemed forced.

She did kind of exist just to make Turk's life annoying, especially in later seasons. They had a very lopsided relationship.

Ah yeah I see that

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

i think i was the only one who loved med school and want that to continue instead of scrubs proper :(

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I dont think it was bad. But it definitely should have been a proper spinoff doing its own thing, rather than just trying to keep Scrubs limping on.

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

Yep. As a spinoff it would’ve been fine. As a season of Scrubs, it was terrible.

With rewatches, I always pause after the eighth season and come back for the ninth as a spinoff.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 2 points 5 days ago

It should have been a spinoff series. If I remember correctly, they creator made it a new season so he could keep the staff working during the writer's strike.

I did think it was good for what it is.

[–] mimic_dev@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

It absolutely could have been it's own great thing. Whenever I rewatch I have to take a big break between the two to try to make it feel as separate as possible

[–] kemsat@lemmy.world -2 points 6 days ago

I was happy about her not being a part of it. She was basically the buzzkill character most of the time. Sure she kept things grounded, but I never watch Scrubs for groundedness.
