Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

If I was dating Pamela Anderson, like Liam Neeson is, I wouldn't give 2 shits either about current ~~pop~~ consumer culture.

If you pirate it you can get angry letters about it

I think it's about the same feeling most of the time, just a "what the hell are you talking about", which, tbf is a pretty normal reaction to a 24 Karat Dubai Chocolate Labubu Benson Boone Crumbl cookie.

24 Karat Dubai Chocolate Labubu Benson Boone Crumbl cookie.

Oh god I feel so old.

I genuinely don't know if this is satire or something that actually exists.

Yes, I could do some light searching and find out, but I'd rather be old and mildly scared about changing trends.

I've seen a reference to "Labubu" several days in a row now. Honestly it reminds me of one of those dime-a-dozen 3d printing brand names.

tbf I'm 20 and don't know shit about any of this either, buuuut then again I'm on Lemmy so make of that what you will

Well after that incident with the Ktarians no surprise

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 points 10 hours ago

Omg I'm in the market for a 3D printer right now (my first), I've been researching for nearly a month and I still find new brands daily, it's insane.

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 15 points 22 hours ago

All of those things are individually extremely popular at the moment, although Benson Boone and Crumbl were more relevant a few weeks ago. Labubus are unfortunately a real thing, and I don't get them. I'm young young, and I don't get a lot of this stuff. You're not missing out on much. Well, Crumbl cookies taste good, but most of the locations are owned by Mormons where the employees are paid like shit. Benson Boone is allegedly a good artist, but I don't see it.

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 9 points 21 hours ago

Labubu is just ~~Pokémon cards~~ ~~Ferbies~~ ~~American Dolls~~ ~~Barbies~~ Beanie Babies ~~Tamagochi~~

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 20 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

A Labubu is just a Monchichi.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

And a "Monchichi" is... what, exactly?

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 2 points 5 hours ago

A popular fluffy doll. Just popular for a different generation.

[–] jawa22@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 13 hours ago

They were made from the mid 70s to mid 80s.

[–] cowfodder@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

Yeah, with a yayo habit.
