Antz did it better (though not better animated)
All I remember about Antz is the terrifying termite war scene. I had nightmares about that.
It was one of my favourite movies as a kid on VHS!

Yeah, they look so similar /j
Obviously it's cause they're similar and came out at the same time. And dealt with similar themes. And features ants as the protagonists. While Antz looks like it was rushed to get a release window beside A Bug's Life, it was actually in development for far longer.
It's often cited as an example of parallel creation, but in reality there's a good chance Katzenberg started production of Antz deliberately as an attack on Disney/Pixar.
Dreamworks tried to use the threat of releasing Antz at the same time as A Bug's Life as leverage to get Disney to give The Prince of Egypt a clear release window, but Pixar's John Lasseter and Steve Jobs wouldn't budge.
