One major difference between the Kirk shooting and that of the Minnesota legislators is that when Hortman was murdered, the rest of the Democrats still showed up to work.
Why? Because what Shapiro et al do isn't something they truly believe in, it's all a grift to make money. As soon as selling hate becomes too dangerous, they'll just pivot to selling crypto or some shit.
I do not want to normalize murder as a trump card in political discourse - not any further than the right has already mind you.
But I am enjoying seeing these hate mongers feel some of that turned back their way, in a very public manner. Having the outside world ‘cancelled’ for themselves for fear of assassins and high powered rifles. Always having to travel with security, constantly worried if their next organic street encounter will be with a genuine fan, or ‘a fan’ with a vendetta.
Tolerance paradox aside, I still condemn this though - because political assassination does not bode well in the immediate term, nor the long term if this kind of activity keeps repeating… it ultimately only leaves the most hardline and ideological voices on the soapbox.
This shooting has to shake some conservative commenters to the core.
And here I was thinking that all you needed to stop a bad guy with a gun was a good guy with a gun.
Guess Benny just doesn't know any good people.
You think anyone out there actually cares about that failure of an author to defend him with their lives? (He's also only a failure in the sense he gave up writing, btw. Rarely do the first books get published. I think he just thought it would get him rich quick, not an actual devotee to the craft.)
