Charlie Kirk being assassinated is the American Reichstag fire.

On that we could probably agree. But I'm guessing this person only sees the Nazi response to the Reichstag Fire as a good thing.

That's why I find it hard to see the celebration about the shooting. This is easily the shooting of Archduke Ferdinand. Or the foreign the Reichstag. The fascists were already always at war. They'll take any flimsy excuse to get more violent, more extreme, more fascist

Not that rightwingers care about details, but the circumstances around the Archduke's Assissination were much different...

There was a failed assissination attempt by bombing first, then the archduke kept the event going for an odd reason, then the driver took a wrong turn right to a separate killer. Whereas this past shooting was a hit and run where we have no idea at the moment who's behind it. Though if it leads to a world war then perhaps we can draw parallels as a pivotal event.

The Reichstag fire is a lot more apt here, where there are few details on whether the person or group framed were the sole actors behind the incident, but it is being used to seize power and oppress the dissenting faction. Any significant event can and is being used as a pretext to militarize the Trump government against its own people.

Yes, they'll take any excuse. They don't need you to resist to do so, so you might as well.

Meanwhile they are clutching there damn pearls over this statement...

“He’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups," Dowd replied. "And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. And I think that is the environment we are in."

"You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place," he continued. "And that’s the unfortunate environment we are in.”

Where is this violent far left rhetoric?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 7 points 4 days ago

Showed this to my wife, who responded, "I no longer feel safe going to protests."

[–] nozone@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 days ago

What violent rhetoric are they talking about? Calling fascists out for being fascistic? The very act of criticizing right wingers seems to send them into a rage, no matter if the criticism is valid or not.

Now is a good time to mention that US law has nothing such as a domestic terror organization label and cannot have it due to the first amendment. Not that they care about the law or anything of the sort, but just mentioning.

Invoking the memory of J. Edgar only supports the conspiracy theories that the home team is eating itself.

I have a feeling, seeing the many small acts of diffiance in the army and litterly singing a les misserables piece about being against dictatorships infront of trump, that if a civil war would break out, the army would not be on their side...

Conservatives need to be shot on sight.
