Profit motive. We engineer food explicitly to increase consumption and suppress or avoid satiation to that end. Obviously this would be the result.

Put health warnings on Ultra Processed Foods (UPF), add a tax and subsidise fruit, veg and non-UPF foods.

Should treat these foods like we do with cigarettes and sugar.

This is kind of surprising given all the programs to feed children that have lost funding in the last 6 months or so.

A lot of other countries stepped up to replace American funding. You're also still seeing countries growing economically on the lower end of the GDP per capita scale.
