I had an '85 Omni GLH Turbo. Then we had our first kid. I'd love to have that car back.

»First oft all, Omni is build for American-sized folks.«

Not so much in the '70s. Everyone was way skinnier then. I know, cuz I was around then.

So I THINK they meant taller,. We've always been a bit taller than most others.

My dad had an Omni from around that time. It was OK, though I don't really remember much about it.

Is the wording standard of the ads of that era? It's so awkwardly written.

[–] TheSilentNickel@feddit.org 0 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I don't really find it that awkward. The copywriters of that time were trying to make ads much more personal though, so not nearly as much corporate-speak like we get today. It was all like, "Would you like it if..." and "You're gonna love this..." kinda vibes.

sure your Dodge Omni Tops, but my AMC Gremlin power bottoms.

By best friend in high school had a Gremlin!!! Such a weird shape for a car. All roundy in the back.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

All roundy in the back.

that's the powerbottom.

That car is cool looking. Why can’t we have that again? Instead we get all this generic garbage that all look the same.

That's a little unfair. The Omni was pretty generic looking for its time too-- I could definitely find an image of one more model that looks like it.

I happen to think that Toyota looks decent.

This model was also sold as the Plymouth Horizon, that may have been what you saw.

Exactly my thoughts!
