annoying nitpick
There is no progression up a ladder in evolution, not towards sophistication nor complexity.
Every single species alive on earth comes from a genetic lineage precisely as old and thus "evolved" as we do. Species can shed complexity and capabilities from evolutionary pressures just as much they can gain them.
I know this is a meme but framings subconciously slip into our ways of thinking like this very easily.
I'm going to nitpick even harder - Who says it's a ladder depicting evolution? Maybe this framing subconsciously slipped into your way of thinking? It could be a ladder depicting of how the author regards creatures in terms of moral ability or even price per pound of entity. I'll go one further, the inclusion of "God" on the ladder indicates that it's not an evolutionary ladder.
My point is about the conceptual framing of a ladder leading to a narrow frame of view about evolution, not that this particular meme is portraying itself literally as an evolutionary ladder.
Excuse me, it's called Alien^3^, and what exactly is the problem with it?
Not much except that it came out after one of the greatest science fiction sequels of all time and couldn't escape the shadow of its success. Also the lack of weapons for a prison seems like it's less dungeon and more of an oubliette, which was never stated in the film but would make sense for how the prisoners are left to fend for themselves and have no regulation about mixing populations.
But I agree with you that the third one isn't bad.
My biggest issue with 3 was how the writers failed to build a good mental map for the audience of the tunnels. The whole 10 minute "chase" scene had me thoroughly confused as to how close the alien was to anyone else.
There's also a lot of context around its production and release that's only memorable to people who were fans at the time. It spent years in development with several rewrites. There was a publicly stated intent that the xenomorphs would be coming to Earth. Total mess of a production with poor setting of expectations.
Decades later, we can ignore all that and judge the film on its merits. I think it's ok, but not great.
what exactly is the problem with it?
Studio interference.
I don't care what you say. No cut can make up for killing off Newt, Hicks and Bishop like that.
The dirt, the worms in the dirt, Mr. Popo's feces, and then you.
The βLegacy Cutβ a fan made 4k restoration and recut of Alien 3 is well worth a look. Much better than any of the released versions imo.
You can get it here https://www.a34k.net/
I refuse to acknowledge its existence.
Hold the wall.
Was that the prison one?
Yes Alien 3 is the David Fincher one where the studio meddled. Certainly not the worst in the franchise (my vote would be Alien: Resurrection) but still pretty bad imo
It could have been worse, the script sketch the final movie is based on was set on a wooden prison planet. Like a wooden barrel space station sort of thing.
And yet, the movie that came after was worse.
Is that prison alien or Michael Wincott alien? Both were excellent and pushed the lore a bit.
Prison, and I don't care what it did with the lore, it was pretty miserable as a movie and the effects were unacceptably bad
I think its space marines alien
That's Aliens, everyone knows that's a great movie
Director's cut WAS a good movie, Alien Cubed is a masterpiece and MUCH better than Aliens
I think this is offensive to mosses
I'm happy below the plants, I think it was fine.
The first 4 with Ripley are good, the rest are strange with a bad plot.
Sorry, but Cephalopods have to be above God.
Was that the Winona Ryder one?
No, that's the Joss Whedon fan tribute that is "Alien Ressurection". It's not canon either.
Edit: Before anybody get any ideas, it's:
-Alien
-Aliens
-(We are here)
-Aliens's
I think it's arrogant to the point of hubris to put humans so close to Jah
Higher Plants should probably go above Molluscs, but I agree with the rest.
