the offensive comments:

We had some new lows over the weekend, with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,

full monologue

Can't risk offending the boy king now can we?

The king who went golfing instead of attending Jesus 2’s vigil-a-go-go?

That’s offensive? I guess pointing out the obvious is just to much for them to handle.

The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

Trump in 2018:

"Just remember: What you're seeing and what you're reading is not what's happening."

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 11 points 3 days ago

If you're seeing and reading Fox News, that's probably true.

That’s just the actual events of record!

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 52 points 4 days ago (7 children)

It’s funny how absolutely true this statement is too. I’ve seen so many headlines over the past week about what political affiliations he might have. And we really still don’t know.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago

Didn’t you know that having a queer friend magically turns all your right wing extremist indoctrination, hate, and bloodthirst leftist! Queer people can turn you trans-political, now.

I was so certain that he was being cancelled over something else that he said, but no!

I watched the whole video here and that was it! In addition to some regular dunking on Trump about how he was in the 4th stage of Denial, Construction.

This is absolute insanity.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 152 points 4 days ago

Mocking Donald Trump as well, Kimmel said on his show Monday: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

That is so tame. And accurate.

[–] glorkon@lemmy.world 40 points 3 days ago

This must be this famed "free speech" that JD Vance lectured the Germans about when he visited Munich.

[–] chisel@piefed.social 89 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Extra crazy because he didn't even speak poorly of Charlie or say any distasteful comments. He didn't even really make a statement about the situation at all. He just said MAGA is trying to categorize the shooter as not them and played some clips of Trump being 100000x more interested in the new Whitehouse ballroom than the public assassination of his dear friend.

You can't cancel someone over comments they didn't make. This is pandering, plain as day. Same reason Colbert got canceled.

[–] parody 17 points 3 days ago

Colbert cancellation was more clever. There are numbers that they could point to (though others that paint him well). They gave him a few months to finish things out. It was temporally too close to the merger talks but besides that the façade could’ve been worse.

This time it’s a nakedly anti-1A FCC. :(

[–] rozodru@piefed.social 91 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Well I mean what do you expect? it's a fascist country, that's what facists do.

you think Nazi Germany allowed anti-party rhetoric or even anything that they could consider remotely offensive to them? no. they got rid of those people.

Americans, please don't allow yourselves to become more Nazi than you already are.

Americans, please don't allow yourselves to become more Nazi than you already are.

What are we supposed to do? I always imagined in Nazi Germany that the govt was working against the wishes of the people and they just didn't fight back but Americans seem to constantly celebrate being stepped on and now I'm thinking maybe the Germans did too. I just never could have imagined humanity was capable of ignorance of this scale.

[–] Geth@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 days ago

Germans did in fact like being stepped on just the same and when the war was over one of the biggest immediate issues of the allies was the de-nazification of the remaining population. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denazification

Leaders like these tend to be a symptom of a deeper systemic issue, rather than a pesky bug you could just squash and move on.

I do hope some reality tv stars speak out. It's a win/win either some networks grow a backbone or we get some trash off tv.

This isn't even cancel culture at this point. It's a violation of our rights to free speech.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago

Direct threat from the administration:

“Frankly, when you see stuff like this, I mean, we can do this the easy way, or these companies can find ways to change conduct, to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

[–] cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Trump had Colbert cancelled and said Kimmel was next on Truth Social back in July: https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114874422468516376

The FCC chairmen threatened ABC: https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/brendan-carr-abc-fcc-jimmy-kimmel-charlie-kirk-1236522406/

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Jimmy should run for office now. I don't think Jimmy Kimmel is some kind of saint but they put him in a place of power by pulling his show.

[–] Hector@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Colbert is the one well placed, to dust off his satire schtick after a maga conversion on his own channel.

He should quit the network early and start, the colbert reported.

Kimmel idk, but these networks will find conservatives have no sense of humor and cannot drive ratings. If they censor things the right cries about no one will subscribe to their dogshit streaming platforms.

Could you imagine an entire administration run by talk show hosts.

Kimmel, Colbert, John Stewart.

I'm not sure they'd do a good job or that they'd even side with the public with issues or avoid bribes, but they'd be charistmatic AF.

Jon, Jimmy, and Stephen would be wasted upon the presidency. They should join forces and start an independent media organization.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 24 points 3 days ago

You only get in trouble for telling the truth.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 36 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Wow, now they are just pulling whoever without a real reason or even a pretext.

It is cancel whoever we want because we can.

Lmao, I don't like him, but that's pretty fucked. I don't see how anyone could view this as anything but harassment and intimidation. They really want a new civil war don't they? Accelerationists are eating great lately. That should scare the shit out of everyone, left and right included.

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 3 days ago (5 children)

Yeah I also dislike Jimmy Kimmel but his comment seems super tame

He didn't even say anything other than the truth and played videos of the president himself ignoring the death and talking about his stupid ballroom that he was bribed with.

I refuse to deal with republicans who ignore these blatant fascist moves the adminstration makes. We would have had a normal country, but no. Project 2025 and the heritage foundation couldn't have that, so they bought donald the presidency and got elon to fund the campaign.

It's only a matter of time till people are arrested for talking out against donald trump and the fact he is a POS who ignores all law and order.

But many of us would rather be locked up than bow down to a pedophile.

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 37 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Isn't this that Cancel Culture™ that MAGA's always talking about?

[–] OctopusNemeses@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago

It's worse. It's state controlled media. Cancel Culture is about the population shunning individuals they dislike. In this instance it's authoritarian government.

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 37 points 4 days ago

Whoa, that’s fucked up

9/10/2025 the death of ~~charlie kirk~~ making fun of nazis.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” the host said.

Wild watching free speech crash and burn in American. This isn't a company pulling him for his speech, this comes as a direct threat from the government regarding his speech.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr:

“Frankly, when you see stuff like this, I mean, we can do this the easy way, or these companies can find ways to change conduct, to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

One's opinion on Kirk's murder is the litmus test. You one of us or one of them? The administration is excelling at not letting a tragedy go to waste. Where were the Democrats when the Minnesota legislators were murdered? Nope. Seems the left is too fair to spin propaganda. And that's why the fascists have won. It's over. They've won.

Get armed, learn and train, defend yourselves even if it means your personal extinction, not an easy path. In any case, hunker down and wait for history to eat them. Gonna take some time, always does, and evil always eats itself in the end.

We need to stop thinking that catching right-wingers in their hypocrisy and exposing it is actually going to achieve something. They know they have a double standard and that they get the clean end of the stick from it. They like that, and want more of it. They know they're doing cancel culture and are anti-freedom of expression. The belief that they might suddenly have a dawning realisation that they've been hypocritical and two-faced and will thereafter either shut up or change their ways is leftist 'pornography plot' daydreaming. We need to accept that they're unashamedly cunts who want non-MAGAs to be second-class citizens in every way possible. So trading blows with them on Twitter and posting gotcha "this you?" screenshots of them saying the opposite shit about George Floyd or whoever is just wasting everyone's time.

Voting is all there is, and that's not a good state of affairs to be in. But it's something you can actually work towards, at least. If you don't intend to vote against them, there's really not much use in complaining when they do their usual reprehensible shit like cost people their livelihoods because they weren't adequately-deferential towards a dead bigot.
