From axios:

Catch up quick: A House resolution to honor Kirk and condemn his assassination has been the subject of frenzied talk among Democrats this week.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said in Democrats' closed-door caucus meeting Thursday morning that leadership will vote for the resolution, but will leave lawmakers to decide for themselves how they plan to vote, Axios reported.

Some Democrats fear that anything short of a unanimous vote for the resolution could be a messaging coup for Republicans.

Fucking worthless Democrats.

Should have at least said yes under the condition of it being after the Jan 6th plaque getting hung up.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 days ago

That would require a spine.

I thought they lost Mike Pence?

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 5 days ago

He was extremely outspoken about Christianity

Ah, that explains his intolerance towards marginalised groups.

The Democratic Party is entirely incompetent.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 14 points 5 days ago

Jesus fucking Christ.

All this for a fucking podcaster hardly anyone even knew and who actively worked against American ideals.

These remembrance days are largely meaningless. This is essentially political clickbait to get everyone riled up on both sides.

Each Congress, Representatives and Senators typically introduce hundreds of measures to recognize, support, honor, or acknowledge individuals, groups, and events with a national day, week, or month.
… By recognizing and memorializing important historical figures, groups, and events, date-specific commemorative measures can be used to help establish collective memory and for Members to connect with constituents and fulfill representational responsibilities.

I added italics, because this does seem like a good way to connect with constituents one way or another.

Who the fuck is Charlie Kirk? I never heard of this asshole until he died! As far as I can tell, he was some unimportant idiot who spewed lots of hatred for minorities but now he's being treated as a martyr

literally just a shitbag mouthpiece for the fascist administration, who did some bonus work by being racist, misogynist, generally shitty etc...

if the US has a federal day of remembrance for him, I will not visit for as long as it is official.

note: haven't read the article yet

Someone more useful as fertilizer or worm shit than breathing air.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Your correct sir, but I also wish to inform you of a very important bit of info about him that will shock you to your very core....are you ready?

He had a very small face

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

That was literally the reaction from most everyone I knew - "did you know who he was?" - sadly, I did, because I'm politically aware and online that the average bear. Even then, I barely paid any attention to the guy.

What the fuck do we have to do to stop Democrats from complying with fascism? Start sending them death threats?

Yes tbh. They're complying because they're scared of the fascists, it follows that they won't do what we say until they're more afraid of us than they are of them.

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 16 points 5 days ago

“One of the most influential people in America” as in someone that most people had no idea about, but now hes dead so they care?

[–] 20cello@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

Epstein remembrance day coming next

[–] lemmie689@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 5 days ago

The day of the gurgling gullet.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

Show me the actual votes, this article sites zero sources.

I'd prefer a resolution for a national day of forgetting Tuberville. Every day. Forever.

[–] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

I propose to celebrate it with Poppy flower necklaces.
