Very different tone than Legacy, but I still like it.
Nine Inch Nails
All things Nine Inch Nails
The instrumentals sound more inspired by the original 1982 Tron soundtrack by Wendy Carlos, which was groundbreaking in terms of bringing electronic music to movie soundtracks. Trent woulda been like 17 years old then, a senior in high school in western Pennsylvania, member of the marching band and jazz band and singing in musicals and I bet he went to the movie theater one day and thought wow that's some amazing music I sure wish I could do something like that someday...
Not sure why it’s NIN. He’s still working with Atticus and it’s all instrumental with a couple vocal tracks.
Atticus has been an official member of NIN since 2016.
There have also been other purely instrumental NIN releases: Quake soundtrack and Ghosts I through to Ghosts VI.
To me this sounds much more NIN than the other scores Reznor and Ross have worked on.
I kinda see what you're saying... wikipedia sez it was Disney's idea to make it a NIN album instead of a "Trent and Atticus" soundtrack ... and at least half of it does sound just like electronic music made for a Disney Tron movie, and I was never a huge fan of the NIN "Ghosts" instrumental albums. But there are 2-3 songs on this that are at least as good as those on the Events/Violence/Witch EPs. And tho they're not my favorite part, instrumentals are an important part of The Fragile, so there's precedent. I guess I see this as a step sideways, if not a step forwards. (I just hope it's not the last NIN album wtf lel...)
For sure. Not complaining, guess I was expecting a heavier sounding soundtrack and not the instrumental electronic landscapes they’re known for when making soundtracks.
Anyone else get a "Survivalism" feel from "This Changes Everything"? Quick mashup:
