Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

The irony of this is I wouldn't give a shit if Jimmy kimmel or the view were cancelled for pretty much any other reason. My dislike for authoritarianism is stronger than my apathy about either of these shows I guess.

I've never watched either. I'm kind of surprised at how many Americans still watch TV.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't regularly watch either of them, the only reason I'm upset is because it's the beginning of the end of free speech in America

It will never stop. After The View, they’ll go after another target. Networks should give up on trying to appease the FCC, and just appease their audiences instead.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 35 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Correction. They should sue the FCC.

Which is probably why Kimmel or his people haven't made a peep. This appears to be a slam dunk 1A win, and I have to think they're putting a case together.

This appears to be a slam dunk 1A win,

If the supreme court gave the tiniest shit about the constitution, I'd believe you.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Constitutional crisis incoming.

[–] Anti_Iridium@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Another? We haven't finished the first!

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 8 points 3 days ago

We've had first constitutional crisis, but what about second constitutional crisis?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The supreme court can't take up every case.

And yet, they magically seem to find time for the cases that cause the most damage to our freedoms.

The GOP hates America so much. They spend their time on fake wars (xmas), stopping business branding (cracker barrel), whining about a pretend terrorist organization (ANTIFA), and claim they are victims and being cancelled. They hate America and are working hard to destroy the culture that the vast majority (75%) actually approve of. This is why religion is so toxic, it creates these monsters.

The first feature of Ur-Fascism is the cult of tradition.

Eco goes on to explain that this “tradition” is, by necessity, syncretistic rather than truly traditional. It is a new culture built on cherry-picked, rose-tinted, imaginary pasts, not reality. This is why “culture wars” are such a focus for fascists, everything else springs forth from this first step.

These monsters weren't created by religion. They just use it as a convenient excuse.

Personality disorders created these monsters.

“Alpha male” offended by The View lol. Ok snowflake

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

Happy yet, media? You got all the clicks you can handle. It only cost our soul.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ironic since the "liberal media" is what gave a huge assist in getting us here. Taco's brand and name awareness went way up by handing him that ridiculous game show, for one thing.

Then the media did absolutely sweet fuckall in properly vetting this asshole when he was running in 2015 and 2016 - giving him billions in free air time, and doing nothing to explain to the American people just what a fraud all of his image as a "businessman" was.

Them pointing the camera at an empty podium for him to arrive at or waiting for his stupid jet to show up tells you so much about how they completely abnegated any responsibility at all in doing their function as the Fourth Estate. Playing the "objective" card and the "neutral" card, because, well, "both sides".

This person gets it.
