They took it down to stop cancellations. The mass exodus hopefully continues.

America is built on shareholders getting profits. If they don't make money, things change.

[–] donalonzo@lemmy.world 25 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, there's no chance a company like Disney can't serve a SPA for cancellation at this scale. This is deliberate.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 17 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I definitely know what SPA means in this context but could you explain for everyone else?

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Single Page Application. I usually associate it with a fairly complicate web "page" that dramatically remakes itself in the browser, but is typically lightweight on the backend.

I would assume this is even simpler than "SPA" would suggest.

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 2 points 3 hours ago

Yeah I wasn't even aware of the term SPA, but in this case I'd have simply called that a form. Form web pages are almost as old as the web itself.

That’s when you call your credit card company to let them know you want to cancel payment but the website isn’t allowing at this time.

Politely request cancellation of any automated payments going forward and if one went through recently see if it’s possible to initiate a charge back. Not sure if a charge back would work in this situation but worth a try.

Most people don't know that they can do this. It's a good reminder.

To the top with you!

Me, who has been pirating without breaks since Limewire existed and the closest I got to these services was Hulu before they got sued (back when it was free): Yarr matey.

[–] AshCircuit@lemmy.zip 3 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

I can't believe the people who use Lemmy also subscribe to things like Disney Plus. 🤣

[–] NerdyKeith@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago

To be fair it's the best place for Star Wars and Marvel content. But there are other means of acquiring such media, which I will not divulge on the internet.

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

I used it for Bob's burgers which i listen to when going to sleep and for my kid to have some shows to watch.

Canceled em, though. Told em they were coward who bent to Nazis.

As disgusted as I am with the people that have been openly celebrating Charlie Kirk's assassination, I don't think death should automatically make somebody immune from criticism. All Kimmel did was point out that the MAGA crowd are desperately trying to characterize Tyler Robinson as a dangerous leftist, despite evidence so far pointing to him being a Gropyer (alt-right white nationalist faction that has openly feuded with Charlie Kirk.)

Kimmel deserves better than to be cancelled because Trump is a twiggered wittle snowflake who can take about as much criticism as a Reddit or Discord moderator.

Thinking of canceling Disney+? You’re not alone

I already cancelled mine over a year ago because Disney tried to dismiss a wrongful death lawsuit on the grounds that the family had agreed to a forced arbitration clause, all because their daughter signed up for a Disney+ trial. Do I even need to explain how much of a ***cunt ***you need to be in order to wave a forced arbitration agreement at a grieving family whose loved one was killed by the gross negligence of a staff member?

(also, the fact that I can type this comment on Lemmy and not Reddit says it all.)

Why are you disgusted by people being happy a fascist cant cause more damage?

The guy was suing for $50K +expenses. That is not even a drop in the bucket for Disney and they fought it. That says plenty about the culture over there.

I feel sad that I can't boycott these spineless cowards because I haven't been a customer since forever.

[–] brem@sh.itjust.works 12 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

I never was a customer, so I'm not sure what to do in this situation?

I suggest more pirate hats. People should be pirating TV and NFL. They do not deserve the money especially the NFL since they love to dig deep inside trump ass .

For people that wanna watch football and not support them, try nflbox.

I would imagine that the crash was mandated by management.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 13 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

even that is a good sign. it means there’s was enough of an effect for them to take action.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Americans aren't very persistent over political issues like this. Stave 'em off a few days and they'll forget and give up.

God damn antifa

[–] Luouth@lemmy.world 64 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Walt Disney used to attend meetings of the German American Bund. They have a long and deep relationship with fascists.

Like many are saying, don't give them your money back if they bring Jimmy back. Hopefully, Jimmy knows how well he could do away from the influences of such people, and he'll say "nah thanks"

It doesn't take a lot of pressure to make a company cave, the James Gunn saga is one example.

If this causes a noticeable drop in revenue for them, they will care.

[–] PenguinMage@lemmy.world 38 points 1 day ago (4 children)

The problem is, there was no reason to cave. Likewise there is no reason for Kimmel to even come back if they can waffle so easily, he doesn't need the money and could probably shop a show on cable somewhere to have more say in how he can make fun of a current administration however fascist they wanna play or how much they want to play the victim.

[–] superfes@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're not wrong, I personally didn't even like Kimmel, but money walks, and I hope it still has some speech left to it.
