Portland just recently broke the top 50 list of the safest cities in the US.

And of course it is a blue state and Portland is known to be extremely liberal.

Fuck you and fuck off fascists

[–] queueBenSis@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

adding a source to support this claim: https://wallethub.com/edu/safest-cities-in-america/41926

Portland ranked 9th in 2024

[–] UnrepentantAlgebra@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Portland OR is 118 on that list? I assume you're not talking about Portland ME.

[–] queueBenSis@sh.itjust.works 2 points 22 hours ago

ooof my bad. thanks for pointing out

[–] duckworthy@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 day ago

He’s looking for a weaker target that he thinks he can manipulate. He didn’t succeed in LA or Chicago or even DC. But he won’t succeed in Oregon either because the governors have banded together to share information and protect their citizens as much as they can. And because the people he has on the ground are incompetent. And the competent people have been unwilling to break the law for him. Most of the military and national guard are very unhappy with this stuff.

[–] TemplaerDude@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hello Americans, this is fascism!! It’s right here!!

[–] Juice@midwest.social 13 points 1 day ago

Really? Lets vote and consume about it

Needs to be a T-shirt

[–] xenomor@lemmy.world 58 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you are a service member, you have a responsibility to refuse illegal and immoral orders. By participating in this administration’s un-American fascist projects, you position yourself as an enemy of the constitution, an enemy of the law, an enemy of the people. We did not accept “just following orders” as a defense the last time we put down a fascist uprising, and we wont accept it this time.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 15 points 1 day ago

Not to detract from your point, but Nazi Germany and crew were a whole lot more than an uprising. Now to actually detract from your point, the Western Allies were super lax on Nazis during the Nuremberg trials to get the West Germans on their side against the Soviets. If I was a fascist looking at history to figure out whether I'd come out of post-facto trials unscathed, I'd feel pretty good about my chances.

Yet another distraction from the child rapist.

[–] missfrizzle@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure the Epstein files are the distraction from sending the military to conquer our own cities.

[–] Ghyste@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Doubtful. Donnie only cares about Donnie.

I tell ya, this is all just a prelude to cancelling elections.

[–] taldennz@lemmy.nz 75 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

It does start to look like another step on the journey to the land of "you won't need to vote"

Weed out politic nay-sayers directly... we're already seeing some of that going on.

Then make being a member of the armed-forces ideologically untenable for those who aren't worshipping orange. Trump's actions must be impacting the national-pride aspect of serving for some (and changing the political disposition at the recruiting office).

If this is effective, in three years, maybe you'll have a military significantly dominated by active supporters (or at least fence-sitters)... Now that opens up some options.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (7 children)

Except you will actually lose a significant number of your military force to do that. Who is going to replace the ones who leave? The majority of MAGA die-hards aren't actually physically fit enough or able to stop using meth long enough to actually cut it in the military. To keep troop levels what they're at (which is definitely not enough to wrangle the whole nation) they'd have to drastically reduce physical fitness and drug abuse standards.

Germany took Europe with about 18 million soldiers throughout the entire war, and Europe had about 540 million citizens overall before World War 2. US has around just over 2 million soldiers (with only 10% in "boots on the ground" combat roles) with about 350 million citizens, all of which are far more spread out over the US than they were in Europe.

The ability for the US military to occupy and hold it's own nation is absurdly low, honestly, imho.

Evidence to support my assertion: https://www.military.com/daily-news/2022/09/28/new-pentagon-study-shows-77-of-young-americans-are-ineligible-military-service.html

Pentagon study from 2020: "A new study from the Pentagon shows that 77% of young Americans would not qualify for military service without a waiver due to being overweight, using drugs or having mental and physical health problems."

[–] DrFistington@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (4 children)

That's why they have a sudden tick tock deal. Control the largest source of youth propaganda, and if you delay elections long enough, you may get the 16 year old Nazi army you want

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

That is the scariest part of this to me. There are some chronicly online young people, that were well below voting age during covid, and are now just detached from reality due to the propaganda. When I talk to people my age (40's), at least we have a common experience of the world before Obama even. Not so with some folks now. Its terrifying.

Incidentally, Hegseth is requiring all US military generals to meet with him in person next week.

A retired general has directly compared it to when Hitler's fuckups forced the german generals and admiralty to re-swear their oath of service, in person, from the original oath to the country and new oath directly to Hitler.

Any excuse to declare martial law.

Anyone want to bet he says Martian law?

Why would they want to change anything about elections when they are already rigged as fuck and a binary option between 2 parties that circle in power every few years?

To me it looks like they are doing what every authoritarian government does when people start protesting

Portland just recently broke the top 50 safest cities in the US. Just so you know what that assclown is targeting.

[–] F_State@midwest.social 37 points 1 day ago (3 children)

There are a huge number of country bumpkins that saw Portland on the TV during 2020 and assumed/were mislead into believing the whole city burned down and it's just a smoldering wasteland now. The actual problems were in a relatively small area downtown; most of Portland was unaffected.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I work with people in the software engineering field that have mentioned wanting to visit Portland but ask me if it's safe.

I can't even.

[–] F_State@midwest.social 15 points 1 day ago

I won't lie, the city has had problems but people's online rants about it are always overblown and always from people who don't live or visit there.

Another inch forward and we all stupidly pretend this means nothing.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 26 points 1 day ago (5 children)

I said this is the other thread, but what is the appropriate response? He's clearly setting the board, and he definitely wants to shoot protesters. He very likely wants sufficient violence to do something dramatic. They even may try to instigate, but have thus far been unable to get the desired response to enable martial law or whatever they plan.

So you have three options:

  1. Violent response
  2. Non-violent response
  3. No response

Which of these three do you propose?

Claims to end wars and then goes to war against us.

This guy hates the constitution

[–] buttnugget@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Traitor lunatics really do seem to believe that decent people live in war zones and burned entire cities to the ground.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Clearly Trump hates traditional American values like the constitution, the separation of church and state, freedom of speech and habeas corpus. I guess he should be put on his own terrorism watch list

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He should be put on a scaffold with a trap door beneath his feet and a noose around his traitorous neck.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

After a juried trial of the entire administration

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

He needs to send troops to change his war ravaged poopy diaper

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Yes he is bad but he can't be as bad as Hitler"

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

Hitler didn't chicken out of service during a war.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 49 points 1 day ago (3 children)

War ravaged? Is this part of his delusions?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 56 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (6 children)

Yep. The fascist party propaganda machines (Fox, OAN, NewsMax) have been reporting that Seattle and Portland are literal war zones for years now. I live in Seattle, and when I travel to the South or the Midwest, I always get the "ohh I'm so sorry" concerned comments from people when they learn where I'm from. So many people think that the cities literally burned down entirely.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I'd see certain commenters repeating that last sentence as just something that was an assumed truth.

Every single time I saw them doing it, I'd ask the usual suspects to show me exactly which cities "burned to the ground". These same people would basically scamper off, providing no evidence, only to make the same claims again in a few hours/days.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Ask them why they believe mainstream media. Then watch them get an aneurysm.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

Oh yeah, they think BLM burned cities to the ground and there's riots everyday and fentanyl heads on every block, broken up with the occasional roving trans kidnapping gangs.

[–] bampop@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

To be war ravaged, it must be at war. Trump is literally declaring war on the American people. And also encouraging the armed forces to kill civilians, unless you think "full force" could possibly mean anything else in a military context.

It's amazing how people can look at stuff like this and say "gee this guy sure does use some crazy hyperbolic language, I wonder what he can mean by that". It's pretty fucking clear.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago

What war?

"Don't worry, we brought it with us in our luggage."

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wonder when the US military is going to move to defend the US constitution ..

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 14 points 1 day ago

Never. Literally not gonna happen. Best you're going to get is some of them joining you when the civil war begins.

Somebody should do it.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

What a complete and total waste of money. Your money.
